BHS Maintenance Technician

The BHS (Baggage Handling System) Maintenance Technician is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automated baggage handling conveyor systems at the airport. This position involves both mechanical and electrical maintenance, requiring the ability to diagnose equipment issues, perform preventive maintenance, and make repairs to ensure the continuous operation of the baggage handling system.

Key Responsibilities:

• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical components of baggage handling systems.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on conveyor equipment and related systems.
• Replace and install motors, drives, chains, belts, rollers, bearings, gearboxes, conveyor sections, VFDs (Allen Bradley and Mitsubishi), Siemens high-speed diverters, photo eyes, scanners, sorters, limit switches, contactors, and other related components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and line diagrams.
• Assist with operation and troubleshooting of PLC-controlled systems during critical failures.
• Coordinate with airport operations, BHS control operators, and maintenance teams to resolve system issues.
• Manage inventory of critical spare parts.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate findings to leadership.
• Follow all electrical, mechanical, and workplace safety procedures.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of three (3) years of technical maintenance experience.
• Experience troubleshooting industrial automation devices and PLC-controlled equipment.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to analyze problems and determine effective solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Industrial maintenance experience.
• Conveyor system maintenance experience.
• Experience reading electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints.
• Basic PLC knowledge.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety.

Licenses & Certifications:

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
• Valid Florida Driver's License (Class E) may be required.
• Millwright or Mechanical Certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in industrial environments for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

This position is performed primarily indoors under general supervision and offers the opportunity to work with advanced automated systems critical to airport operations.
