Department: 36102 Advocate Lutheran General Hospital - Emergency Department Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 36 Schedule Details: mid shift, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Pay Range: $21.85 - $32.80 per hour Major Responsibilities Assist physicians and registered nurses in providing technical care of patients by performing phlebotomy, transporting patients to other departments, placing patients on cardiac and vital sign monitors, performing wound care, obtaining lab specimens, and, if permitted by state regulations, performing IV starts. Document information and procedures and promptly communicate observations, concerns, and patient needs to registered nurses. Process daily patient charges and/or related procedures through the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Collaborate with physicians to support communications required to facilitate patient care, coordinating all forms of communication (phone, verbal, paging, electronic, fax, and EMS system). Maintain a clean and safe working environment, following department safety policies and standard precautions. Monitor equipment and troubleshoot minor problems, arranging repair of major malfunctions. Perform various patient positioning and transportation duties, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique. Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, applying growth and development principles across the lifespan and interpreting data to meet each patient’s age-specific needs as outlined in departmental policies. Licensure, Registration, And/or Certification Required Nurse Aide in good standing with the State Registry in which the TM practices. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Intravenous license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Intermediate license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices. Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months, unless a department leader determines it is not required. Education Required High School Graduate. Experience Required Typically requires 1 year of experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Basic computer skills and ability to work with Electronic Health Record (EHR). Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and families. Maintain required skill and recertification as required by regulation and organization. Effectively manage time and priorities. High level of attention to detail. Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF or others). Physical Requirements And Working Conditions Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during the shift. Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs over a reasonable distance. Push/pull with 30 lbs of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present. Use foot pedals on carts or machines. Expose to hazards including mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, and blood and body fluids. Wear gloves, goggles, and gowns as needed. Must have functional sight and hearing, and operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
