Job Summary

Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) is Utah's largest college with the most diverse student body. As the only comprehensive community college in Utah, SLCC plays a critical role in the success of our community by providing access to higher education to thousands of new students every year whose goals are to transfer to 4-year universities or gain skills to advance in the workforce. SLCC's award-winning Orientation & Transition department supports this mission by preparing new students to thrive in higher education. The OT Coordinator will be part of this team and work collaboratively to implement elements of a comprehensive first-year program. Under general supervision, the OT coordinator will specifically be responsible for coordinating welcome week events, implementing new student orientation programs, maintaining the online orientation, working with community partners in neighboring school districts to create a college-going pipeline, and developing content for the office's online presence to enhance engagement with incoming students. The coordinator will also supervise part-time staff. Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

An OT Coordinator Must:

• Motivate, encourage, mentor, and teach new students how to navigate higher education.
• Create a welcoming environment for new students and their families.
• Demonstrate initiative, creativity, teamwork, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
• Articulate the purpose of general education classes and teach students how to register for these courses.
• Feel comfortable using technology, including social media, to market events and build community.
• Be dependable, have excellent organizational skills, and pay close attention to details.
• Participate in ongoing professional development sessions.

All Candidates Should Possess the Ability to:

• Communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with a wide range of individuals.
• Deliver high-quality presentations and lead discussions with large and small groups of students in new student orientations or in classrooms with high enrollment of first-year students.
• Provide excellent customer service and, when necessary, provide one-on-one consultations.
• Work collaboratively with others in the OSS team and our campus partners.
• Organize, process, and disseminate large amounts of information accurately.
• Learn the requirements of SLCC services, major prerequisites, programs, and degree options, as well as college resources and processes (e.g., admissions, registration, financial aid, placement, and orientation).
• Determine the needs of new students and work with others to implement services to meet these needs through orientation programs, transition activities, and new student tutorials.
• Work well under pressure and function independently with integrity.
• Utilize basic computer operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and SLCC's student information system (i.e., Banner).
• Prioritize assignments and plan and carry projects to completion.
• Learn quickly, work well under pressure, and work ethically with confidential information.
• Advocate for all students with an emphasis on new students.
• Work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
• Ability to supervise part-staff.
• Quickly grasp student development and advising theory to better serve students and support OT programming.
• Communicate effectively with a broad range of people, abilities and backgrounds to maintain good working relationships across the College.
• Work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in education, educational psychology, sociology, communications, ethnic studies, or related field.
• One (1) to four (4) or more years of full-time, direct professional experience

Part-time experience may be substituted on a prorated basis (i. e., two years of related part-time experience equals one year of full-time experience) Trade off 1:1 in experience/education requirement (i. e., one year of education above the minimum requirement equals one year of full-time experience)

Preferred Qualifications

• A master's degree in a related field.
• Experience working in a higher education environment, particularly in two-year schools.
• Bilingual or multilingual ability.
