The Sous Chef is responsible for delivering exceptional service while embodying the Core Values of Paws Up Montana. This role is instrumental in creating authentic, personalized experiences for guests and ensuring seamless daily operations at the Social Haus, an exclusive 24-guest adult-only sanctuary where soaring windows, open kitchens, and live-fire cooking meet. Through professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence, the Sous Chef helps create unforgettable Montana experiences that define the Paws Up and green o brands.Key Responsibilities
- Daily Kitchen Leadership: Take full accountability for the overall success and execution of daily kitchen operations, managing shift functions and ensuring complete compliance with all culinary standards, policies, and procedures.
- Culinary Execution & Quality Control: Exhibit superior culinary talents by personally performing advanced cooking techniques while leading line staff, maintaining complete oversight over all kitchen areas to ensure a consistent, high-quality product.
- Cross-Departmental Synergy: Partner closely with the Executive Chef, Chef de Cuisine, and front-of-house team to align daily operations, communicate production needs, and deliver flawless execution across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special events.
- Sanitation & Regulatory Compliance: Supervise kitchen hygiene practices to ensure rigorous food safety, sanitation, and health department standards are achieved without exception.
- Menu Innovation & Brand Standards: Contribute artistic and creative concepts to develop new dishes, menus, and highly decorative food displays that uphold the property's luxury identity and elevate guest dining satisfaction.
- Operational Oversight & Budgeting: Manage daily production estimates, assist with inventory, ordering, and scheduling, and adapt kitchen processes to remain aligned with the operating budget.
- Team Coaching & Communication: Provide ongoing information, real-time guidance, feedback, and individual coaching to staff members to improve service and foster a harmonious team environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Chef.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Cook/Line Cook in a resort or fine-dining setting, paired with a certificate in culinary arts or a relevant field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in culinary management with a proven ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing kitchen team.
- In-depth knowledge of world-class hospitality, sophisticated flavor profiles, and refined service management.
- Calm under pressure, possesses a strong sense of urgency, high emotional intelligence, and an unwavering attention to detail aligned with luxury standards.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment.
- Valid State Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move swiftly across the line and kitchen floor for extended periods during intense service windows.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy kitchen equipment, stock pots, and bulk inventory ingredients up to 50 lbs.
