Human Resources (HR) and Administration Duties Overview

Employment Opportunities at Three Stone Hearth About Three Stone Hearth Three Stone Hearth was founded in 2006 and is a Berkeley‑based worker‑owner cooperative that produces, packages and sells a weekly menu of healthy, nutrient‑dense, home‑style prepared foods for sale online (for pick‑up or delivery), in our Brick & Mortar store, at farmers markets and via bulk sales. COVID Details Mask usage within our building is now optional. A company COVID protocol remains in place and all workers must agree to and follow it. Available Positions Human Resources Generalist The Human Resources Generalist energizes our HR circle and manages daily HR functions. In collaboration with circle leads and HR staff, the role develops, improves, and maintains procedures, protocols, and documentation for all HR needs, including hiring, role descriptions, benefits administration, payroll backup support, onboarding, exit processes, safety programs, feedback processes, and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities Provide end‑to‑end hiring support: formulate role descriptions, post openings, source applicants, coordinate interviews, schedule tryouts, make offers, and coordinate wage offers with Finance. Conduct onboarding and offboarding: complete new‑hire orientation, manage paperwork, maintain personnel files, and ensure accurate record keeping. Coordinate staff reviews: support Lead Links to ensure 6‑week and other company reviews are completed timely. Serve as backup Company Payroll Processor and understand payroll processes. Administer employee benefits and contracts: track eligibility, onboard newly eligible employees, manage worker’s compensation, health, life, and auto policies, handle COBRA and other legal notifications, and review insurance invoices. Maintain and update the company employee handbook; stay current on labor‐law changes and communicate policies to staff. Support employee relations and conflict resolution: provide training on basic conflict resolution, facilitate mediation, advise on investigations, and document outcomes. Coordinate safety functions: collaborate on safety procedures, audit safety protocols, maintain the IIPP and Emergency Action Plan, record OSHA documentation, organize CPR/First Aid training, plan emergency drills. Maintain COVID‑19 protocol: update regulations, manage employee reports, provide testing guidance, and submit required reports. Handle ongoing administrative tasks: attend staff meetings, maintain Google calendar, manage Google Workspace employee emails and groups, and perform additional duties as needed. Required Education, Experience, and Skills Two years as a Human Resource generalist or HR administrator. Bachelor’s degree or 3 years of administrative experience. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality regarding HR matters. Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills to develop workflows and keep recurring systems. Strong computer skills with Google Workspace and email; quick learner of new systems. Time‑management ability to work on multiple projects and reprioritize as needed. Strong written communication and documentation skills. Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and negotiation skills; direct, articulate, friendly tone in emails and conversations. Required Personal Attributes Enthusiasm for sustainability, community, and health values. Capacity to thrive in a cooperative organization with shared leadership. Team player who builds and maintains good working relationships. Physical Requirements Works at a computer and sits for extended periods. Can lift and carry 20 pounds. Preferred Familiarity Experience in a cooperative. Understanding of food sustainability principles, including those of the Weston A Price Foundation. Compensation & Schedule Starting rate: $24.00–$26.00 per hour, plus benefits. Non‑exempt position. Minimum 20–24 hours per week with flexibility for HR cycle fluctuations and on‑call availability for time‑sensitive needs. Dishwasher This is a full‑time position responsible for cleaning and storing all dishware, cookware, kitchen tools, equipment, packaging, and delivery materials. The dishwasher also supports facility organization and maintenance, sanitation of bathrooms, floor cleaning, and other janitorial duties. Responsibilities include managing cleaning supplies, recycling, garbage, composting, and kitchen laundry. Required Education, Experience, and Skills At least 6 months of experience in a commercial kitchen or equivalent. Food Handler’s Certification upon hire. Commitment to cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and sanitation. Ability to safely use industrial dishwashing equipment. Strong attention to detail and high organization. Capacity to multitask, set priorities, and respond quickly to changing needs. Co‑operative experience is a plus. Required Personal Attributes High level of professionalism and upbeat, flexible team player mindset. Good communication and relationship‑building skills. Attendance and punctuality are required. Patience in a diverse environment with coworkers of varying skill levels. Familiarity with Holacracy appreciated but not required. Physical Requirements Work safely with hot liquids. Stand for extended periods. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Willingness to work in a fast‑paced environment. Schedule & Compensation Typical schedule: 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and possibly Tuesday. Starting rate: $19.61–$21.25 per hour, plus benefits.
