Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students by supporting their growth and learning in a welcoming school environment near Whitmore Lake, MI. We are seeking dedicated Special Education Teachers for contract positions to work directly with students in-person. There are immediate openings for two educators to join our 6th-12th grade resource program, focusing on functional life skills, community-based instruction, and academic support. In addition, we are searching for a teacher to oversee the 7th-grade special education caseload, guiding students through their unique educational journeys.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid Special Education Teacher certification for the state of Michigan
- Experience working with middle and high school students, ideally in a resource or life skills program
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation
- Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, support staff, and families
- Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills
- Passion for fostering independence and community participation in students with diverse needs
Responsibilities:
- Develop and adapt lesson plans for students with varying learning abilities, emphasizing life skills, social development, and academic achievement
- Provide direct instruction and support in both individual and group settings
- Regularly assess student progress and confer with colleagues, administration, and families to adjust educational plans as needed
- Prepare IEP documentation and attend meetings to ensure compliance and advocate for student needs
- Engage students in community-based instruction and foster skills important for success beyond the classroom
- Build positive, supportive relationships that empower students to reach their fullest potential
