Provide support for student educational opportunities through health education, health promotion, disease prevention, and case management of health conditions which will minimize absenteeism and create a climate of well-being for the school community./ppMinimum Education:/pulliProfessional Registered Nurse/liliBachelors Degree preferred/liliValid Texas Nurse License/liliCertificate from State Health Department for vision, hearing, spinal and Acanthosis Nigricans (AN) screening/liliC.P.R. Instructor certification/li/ulpSpecial Knowledge/Skills:/pulliPhysical, mental, social emotional nursing assessment skills/liliNursing skills and knowledge specific to pediatric nursing/liliAbility to develop student specific case management plans for chronic and acute medical conditions./liliWork autonomously in school clinical setting/li/ulpMinimum Experience:/ppAt least two (2) years experience in clinical nursing, with five (5) years preferred/ppMajor Responsibilities and Duties:/ppProgram Management:/polliResponsible for collection and maintenance of student health records and adhere to medical documentation per nursing regulations. Documentation completed in a timely manner in district electronic medical program./liliManage clinical functions; medical care, nursing systems, communication, maintaining supplies, and keep clinic attractive and orderly./liliProvide individual and group health instruction including education with instructional pamphlets and materials for health-related concerns./liliTrain, orient, supervise, and coordinate the duties of assistive personnel/liliEnsure confidentiality for all students and staff members receiving care in school clinic./li/olpSchool Climate:/polliMaintain professional communication with faculty, staff, students, parents and community members./liliPromote effective nursing practices with professional collegiality and collaboration./liliModel health values and positive attitudes for students, staff and parents./li/olpSchool Improvement:/polliDevelop and coordinate health promotion activities within district and community./liliPromote safety by assessment of school environment and instructional practices./liliOversee training of Bloodborne Pathogen Control Plan to faculty and staff./liliFocus clinic operations toward accomplishment of districts vision, mission and attainment of district goals and objectives./liliPromote wellness and offer health counseling/services to faculty, staff, students, and parents./liliActively participate in department and campus staff development, faculty meetings and special events./li/olpStudent Management:/polliAssess and develop student specific individual health plans, implement care and evaluate results to ensure programs meet the health needs of students to promote learning./liliComplete requested screening: vision and hearing/liliImplement care for chronic and acute illnesses and manage first aid procedures for injuries./liliMaintain FERPA HIPAA regulations when communicating health needs of students as necessary on need to know basis with appropriate faculty./liliFollow-up on students with excessive absenteeism to determine medical status for medical intervention and advocate for services when needed./liliDirect clinic management to protect students classroom learning experiences./liliPromote and maintain high compliance rates for immunizations per Texas Law/liliAssist campus administrators to develop strategies to mitigate exclusion of student for immunization non-compliance./liliEnforce communicable disease guidelines stated by Texas Department of Health and Board policy./liliProvide appropriate referrals for students needing medical evaluation to ensure timely referrals, care and return to classroom learning./liliKeep parents informed of students injuries, illnesses and included in the development of the plan of care while attending school./liliOversee and supervise program to safely dispense medications and provide physician directed medical procedures for chronically and acutely ill students./li/olpProfessional Growth and Development:/polliAdhere to the Professional Nursing Code of Ethics, Board of Nursing rules and regulations and district policies./li/olpWorking Conditions:/ppMental Demands:/pulliShow leadership management while under stressful and emergency situations./liliAbility to communicate professionally and effectively (verbal and written)/liliAbility to manage conflict resolution./liliInterpret nursing and district policy and procedures./li/ulpPhysical Demands/Environmental Factors:/pulliFrequent exposure to communicable diseases and bloodborne pathogens./liliResponsibilities may require lifting up to 50 lbs., stooping frequently, bending frequently, kneeling intermittently, pushing/pulling up to 250 lbs and occasional prolonged working hours./li/ulpThe information contained in this job description is for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills that may be required.
