Area Manager

Massachusetts General Hospital

SUMMARY Supervises and administers the housekeeping program to maintain the hospital environment in a sanitary, attractive, and orderly condition. Patient Care: No. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Establish standards and work procedures for housekeeping staff in accordance with hospital policies Plan work schedules and assign staff to ensure adequate coverage across all hospital areas Train and supervise housekeeping personnel Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of the hospital; recommend repairs, equipment relocation, and space adjustments to improve sanitation, appearance, and efficiency Identify and report unsafe conditions Evaluate and recommend new housekeeping supplies and equipment Prepare budgets, reports, and administrative documentation Manage inventory of housekeeping supplies and equipment; select and requisition replacements as needed SCHEDULE 9:00 PM – 6:30 AM, Friday – Saturday (overnight), Part‑Time EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study preferred EXPERIENCE IN LIEU OF DEGREE Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? Yes. LICENSES AND CREDENTIALS Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred EXPERIENCE Experience working with the cleaning equipment and chemicals used in hospitals and healthcare centers (5‑7 years preferred) Experience in a supervisory role (2‑3 years preferred) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of principles and practices of municipal government administration, operations, and management; methods and techniques of research and report presentation. Knowledge of State and federally mandated laws, guidelines, and regulations regarding solid waste management. Ability to analyze and interpret technical and numerical information. Ability to observe and solve operational and technical problems. Ability to develop policies and procedures. Ability to understand and interpret complex rules and procedures; research, analyze, and recommend solutions to administrative and other management problems. Ability to analyze budgets, reports, and various proposals. Ability to determine an effective method of research. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
