Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist - 2nd Shift Job Description

This role focuses on performing complete setups and operating CNC lathes equipped with Fanuc controls on 2nd shift. You will support the turning department by setting up machines from setup sheets, installing and adjusting tooling and workholding, verifying part dimensions, and troubleshooting machining and process issues to ensure consistent, high-quality production of precision components.

Responsibilities

• Perform complete machine setups on CNC lathes using setup sheets and established procedures.

• Install and adjust tooling, workholding devices, and machine offsets to meet job requirements.

• Conduct tooling changes and modify offsets as needed to maintain part quality and process efficiency.

• Read, interpret, and follow setup documentation, blueprints, and related technical drawings.

• Run existing CNC programs and make minor adjustments when necessary to achieve correct dimensions and surface finish.

• Verify dimensions and part features using precision measuring instruments to ensure compliance with specifications.

• Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) to validate initial setups and confirm process capability.

• Run probing cycles and verify datums to accurately locate parts and maintain consistent machining references.

• Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and process issues to minimize downtime and improve performance.

• Assist with preventative maintenance activities and perform minor machine repairs to sustain equipment reliability.

• Operate multiple CNC lathes as production demands require, maintaining productivity across machines.

• Deburr finished components to meet quality and safety standards.

• Communicate effectively with quality and engineering teams regarding machining concerns, dimensional issues, and process improvements.

• Apply strong understanding of tooling nomenclature to select appropriate cutting tools and explain their functions and applications within the machining process.

• Support continuous improvement by identifying root causes of machining issues and contributing to corrective actions when needed.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of CNC machining experience in a production or job shop environment.

• Hands-on experience performing machine setups on CNC lathes.

• Proficiency operating CNC lathes with Fanuc controls.

• Ability to perform tooling changes and adjust machine offsets accurately.

• Strong understanding of machining tooling, tooling nomenclature, and tooling functions.

• Ability to clearly explain cutting tool applications and machining processes.

• Blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).

• Strong troubleshooting abilities related to machining processes, tooling, and equipment, including support of preventative maintenance activities.

• Comfort working with Doosan, Mazak, Takisawa, Miyano, dual spindle, dual turret, and Y-axis CNC lathes or similar equipment.

• Ability to follow established CNC programs and make minor edits or adjustments when required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of G-code and M-code programming concepts.

• Ability to edit CNC programs to refine processes or resolve minor machining issues.

• Experience with dual spindle lathes for multi-operation machining.

• Experience with dual turret lathes for complex, simultaneous machining operations.

• Y-axis machining experience for advanced turning and milling features on lathes.

• Experience conducting root cause analysis for machining and quality issues.

• Familiarity with probing cycles and datum verification on CNC equipment.

• Experience working in a precision machining environment producing smaller, high-precision parts.

Work Environment

This position is on 2nd shift, typically from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with some overtime as production requires. The work is performed in a clean, well-structured precision machining shop focused on high-pressure valves and other industrial components, emphasizing smaller, high-precision parts rather than heavy fabrication. You will work primarily on CNC lathes equipped with Fanuc controls, including Doosan, Mazak, Takisawa, Miyano, dual spindle, dual turret, and Y-axis machines. The environment is organized and process-driven, with established setup documentation, quality checks, and preventative maintenance routines. Dress is typical for a machining environment, with practical work attire suitable for operating CNC equipment and handling metal components, along with appropriate safety gear as required.

This is a Permanent position based out of Euclid, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $49920.00 - $68640.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
