Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical PCU/Stepdown position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, with ventilator experience required and night shifts on a 4x12 schedule.

Details

• Large acute care hospital environment with over 700 licensed beds, designated as a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet facility, and academic teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
• Surgical PCU/Stepdown unit functioning as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU, with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
• Patient population includes post-surgical, bariatric, and trauma overflow patients, including 2 beds dedicated to chronic trach patients (non-ICU level)
• Typical patient ratio is 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
• Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting implemented to supplement Patient Care Tech coverage
• Equipment used includes ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tool, PICC lines, and multi-lumen catheters
• IV drips managed include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose Dopamine/Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration)
• Respiratory support equipment includes nasal cannula, standard oxygen, CPAP, and BiPAP
• Night shift: 4x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• One holiday shift required per 13-week contract period
• Floating required within skillset
• Epic EMR experience required
• Contract length: up to 26 weeks available by request

Requirements

• Active Virginia state or Compact RN license required; pending licensure accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Ventilator care experience required, specifically for chronic trach patients
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Familiarity with cardiac drip management (no titration required)
• Experience with respiratory support modalities including CPAP and BiPAP
• Experience in isolation precautions and telemetry settings across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown unit environments
• Epic EMR experience required
• Two professional references required for consideration
• Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
