Beta is a Title I Schoolwide campus. I understand that part or all of this job could be funded with federal funds.
Primary FunctionLead the day-to-day school food service operations on the campus. Maintain high standards for safety, sanitation, and meal quality. Supervise campus level CNP employees, assist in placing food/supply orders, account for meal service and a la carte sales, and ensure adequate inventory is always available.

CNP Kitchen Manager Responsibilities- Maintain child nutrition program compliance and program integrity.
- Manages staff and nutrition operations according to federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Effectively execute all meal programs (grab n go, field trip meals, traditional breakfast/lunch, special diets, etc.) Ensure meal counts are accurate.
- Performs general office and secretarial duties including but not limited to; preparing reports, maintaining physical and digital office files, and submitting work orders.
- Follows proper procedures for receiving and storing foods and supplies.
- Communicate with the CNP Director any food and supply delivery discrepancies no later than 24 hours from received time. Report any missing/damaged products verbally to the delivery driver immediately, document in writing and with pictures.
- Plan and evaluate that sufficient quantities of each meal component is produced to meet daily need for meal services.
- Manage the lunch count standard operating procedure. May be required to evaluate counts vs actual meals served and speak to homeroom teachers about discrepancies to ensure there is not continuous excess food waste or not enough meals prepared.
- Maintain and monitor a la carte program. Receive and thoroughly inspect delivery of snacks and beverages. Report any missing/damaged products verbally to the delivery driver immediately and to the CNP Director before the end of the workday, document in writing and with pictures.
- Assists in taking inventory of food at the end of each meal service; records leftovers in addition to maintaining accurate records of foods produced and served for food production records.
- Completes food production records daily and ensures they match the point-of-sale reports.
- Monitor inventory of all food and non-food service supplies, assist the Child Nutrition Director with placing orders.
- Proficient in the front of the house and back of the house functionalities of the nutrition software system.
- Operate point-of-sale; ensure reimbursable meals are served, monitor meal account balances, and maintain confidentiality of scholar’s eligibility status.
- Manage the cash register, count money, and ensure security of funds.
- Complete Child Nutrition Program end of day cash report, prepare and make bank deposits, and manage/collect scholar meal debt.
- Maintains sanitation, safety, and security practices in compliance with federal, state and local policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Conduct kitchen inspection checklists on a bi-weekly basis, implement corrective action plans when necessary.
- Implements customer service techniques to promote scholar, staff, and family satisfaction.
- Assist other Child Nutrition staff during down time.
- Fill in for CNP staff when absent, potentially at other campuses as well.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities assigned by the CNP Director.
Must hold a Food Manager Certification or obtain one within 60 days of employment.
Associates Degree or High School Diploma (or GED) and one year of relevant work experience in the food service field and management experience preferred.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs or 50 lb with assistance
- Must complete 10 hours of USDA Professional Standard training, annually.
- Work flexible hours (early mornings, longer/shorter shifts, nights). May be required to work beyond the 40-hour work week.
- Expected to be able to work in a fast-paced environment all while providing excellent customer service, program compliance, and resolving conflicts under pressure.
- Proficient with various computer programs ( i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GoogleDocs, etc.)
- Check staff email a minimum of twice daily, all staff texts, and front office CNP mailbox daily.
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must wear a hair restraint and non-slip shoes when preparing/serving food.
- No jewelry besides a wedding band or necklace that can be tucked into shirt
- Nails must be kept short and unpolished
- No wearing of strong perfumes/cologne
- No cell phone use in front of scholars or when handling food
- Oversee all Child Nutrition campus level employees to ensure all job duties are completed daily and in an efficient manner.
- Demonstrate professionalism by being in regular attendance and arriving on time to work, staff meetings, parent nights and other assigned duties.
- Ensures kitchen, serving areas, and seating are all meeting high safety and sanitation standards while also being a welcoming environment.
- Assist with the training of new child nutrition program employees.
- Complete required training(s) on time.
- Recognize problems, impediments and reports them promptly with options for solutions to the campus principal and/or Child Nutrition Director; promotes and assists with constructive resolutions.
- Follow through on assignments, show independence by completing tasks from beginning to end.
- Read, monitor, and implement all child nutrition policies and procedures. Includes but not limited to; HACCP/SOPs, Scholar Special Dietary Needs, USDA’s Parent Complaint Form, Field Trip Order Forms, Meal Charge Policy, Cash Collection and Handling, Local School Wellness Policy, and Emergency Preparedness Plan.
- Read and comply with the Procedures Manual, Employee Handbook, Scholar Handbook and Scholar Code of Conduct.
- Promote and maintain a positive and effective school climate by ensuring that all interactions with staff, scholars, parents, and the public at large are prompt, efficient, helpful, and friendly.
- Demonstrate professionalism at ALL times. Exercise wisdom by remaining calm, respectful, and non-defensive during parent meetings, disagreements, and personal attacks.
- Utilize professional communication with strong grammar, syntax, usage and/or spelling skills during phone conversations, personal conversations, emails, and social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
- Exhibit professionalism in appearance and follow the Beta Academy standard of dress. Apply this standard of dress to personal social media posts in regards to modesty in dress and action (ex: swimsuit, cleavage, & shirtless pictures, in addition to posts with alcohol, cigarettes, and bars etc.).
