Registered Nurse - 6th Floor Med/Surg Telemetry - Full Time 12 Hour Day Shift (Union)

Responsibilities As an integral member of the patient care team, the Registered Nurse supports the Chief Nursing Officer in leading the patient care team in providing safety, recovery, and comfort for patients by implementing the nursing process (assessment, nursing diagnosis, developing the plan of care and education plan; implementing interventions, evaluating interventions, and revising plans as needed). The nurse provides education and advocacy in compliance with regulatory requirements including CMS Conditions of Participation, Title 22, CDPH regulations, DNV‑GL/NIAHO standards, etc. The Registered Nurse supports the department manager and director in quality improvement and growth of unit services; leads in collaboration with co‑workers and other departments; and manages efficient services with meaningful and valuable outcomes. Decision‑making authority: patient care within the scope of practice, patient acuity based on patient classification decision‑making method, and full legal scope of practice based on education, training, and competency. RNs are expected to practice to the full extent of their legal scope of practice, make judgments and decisions about patient care, and act on assessments performed. RNs are accountable for providing a healing environment for recovery and safe passage of patients through their episode of care in the hospital; for prevention of harm; for educating the patient about their condition and self‑care actions; for identifying abnormal findings and reporting appropriately; and for providing comfort and compassionate care. Executive Functions Planning: Assist charge nurse with planning delivery of patient care for the shift; contribute to overall unit planning and improvement. Directing: Precept and validate competency of new hires and new procedures; teach nursing students. Delegating: Delegate duties to other RNs, LVNs, CNAs as indicated. Coordinating: Coordinate the assigned team; communicate expectations to assigned staff (interventions, reports, etc.). Improvement opportunities: Communicate information through the chain of command and report unusual events; perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Education Graduation from a Registered Nurse Program. BSN desired (if not upon hire, will obtain within 5 years preferred). Minimum Experience/Knowledge 1 year clinical experience in an acute care setting preferred. Experience in treating orthopaedic and stroke patient populations preferred. For Cardiac Cath Lab Nurses: 1 year in ICU, step‑down, or ER preferred; 1 year+ IR, EP, or Cardiac Cath Lab experience preferred. For 6th Floor Med/Surg Employees: Two years’ experience with orthopaedic and medical‑surgical nursing preferred; certification in medical‑surgical, orthopaedic or other specialty preferred. Required License/Certification California Registered Nurse License. Certification in clinical specialty or management desired. For Surgery: BLS, ACLS. For PACU/SDS/GI Lab: BLS, ACLS, PALS. For Cath Lab: BLS, ACLS. For ED: BLS, ACLS, PALS, AB508 (within 30 days of hire), NIHSS (within 30 days of hire), NRP (within 6 months of hire), ENPC (within 12 months of hire). For Geropsych: BLS, AB508 (within 30 days of hire). For ICU/5S, 4th Telemetry, 6th Med Surg and Float Pool: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (within 30 days of hire). BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP must be AHA certified.
