Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 16 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year in a progressive care unit. License: Valid nursing license required. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Current acute care nursing experience in the last 12 months. Description: This position is for a nurse in a busy surgical oncology progressive care unit. The unit provides care for both progressive care and medical-surgical patients. Staffing ratios are aimed at 1:4, but can vary to 1:5 based on unit needs. Weekend shifts are variable according to departmental requirements. Staff may be required to float within their scope of practice to other areas as needed. Nurses will work either days, nights, or a combination of both, depending on staffing priorities. Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with various surgical oncology diagnoses. Common diagnoses include breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal cancers, and reconstructive surgeries. The unit conducts special procedures including chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and management of oncologic emergencies. Infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention are heavily emphasized. Nurses will utilize computerized charting systems in their daily tasks. The unit fosters interdisciplinary support with various clinical teams. This position requires a strong foundation in nursing practice and a commitment to quality patient care. Candidates must possess the ability to manage high-acuity patients effectively. Strong clinical judgment and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential. All candidates must be aware of the urgency of meeting credentialing requirements before their start date.
