Position: St. Mary Magdalene: Maintenance Custodian Location: Columbus, OH Job Id: 902 # of Openings: 1 St. Mary Magdalene School Maintenance Custodian Job Title: Maintenance Custodian Written/Revised: 08/21/26 Parish/School: Saint Mary Magdalene FLSA Code: Non - Exempt (Hourly) Responsible to: Pastor & Principal Pay Range: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour JOB SUMMARY: Maintain a clean and safe working environment for all staff and visitors by personally performing the following essential job responsibilities. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines. Sometimes using ladders, dusts and washes wall, cleans ceilings and dusts and polishes light fixtures. Replaces burned out bulbs and tubes. Washes and replaces blinds. Washes windows. Moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas. May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions. Also sweeps walks, rakes leaves, cuts grass, removes snow or performs other incidental seasonal tasks. Empties trash cans and replaces liners. Cleans restroom fixtures, refills soap supply dispensers, refills toilette paper and towel dispensers. Inspects boilers daily in the heating season. Notifies the Maintenance Supervisor of things requiring outsourcing. Inspects and maintains all equipment and make minor repairs. Notifies the Maintenance Supervisor of any repairs requiring outsourcing. Is responsible for maintaining all tools belonging to the school or parish. Prepares for events and activities by setting up and taking down chairs, tables, platforms and other equipment. Assists Pastor and Principal with projects as needed. Regular attendance and punctuality is essential for this job. OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Complies with federal, state and local safety laws. Maintains a neat and safe work area. Performs other duties as assigned. Various daily tasks as necessary including but not limited to delivery of items between and within the buildings, facilitation of inspections and the work of outside contractions. Orders supplies in coordination with the bookkeeper. Performs other duties as assigned. Required: Compliance with BCI&I and FBI background checks and completion of Protecting God's Children Program Education: High School degree required; Mechanical training and certification is preferred Experience: Previous Maintenance/custodian experience is preferred. Job Related Skills: Basic knowledge of mechanics, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, gas motors, operation of HVAC systems, and the use of a chainsaw. This position requires frequent movement about the school and parish buildings to complete the essential job responsibilities as outlined above. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to be a team player and have harmonious relationship skills when dealing with co-workers and other school and parish employees, families and the general public. Language skills: Ability to read and comprehend equipment manuals and instructions, write short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively communicate to customers, vendors, and other employees of the Diocese. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Working Environment: The ability to maintain all information highly confidential.
