Custodian

Custodian--Worthington Estates/TWHSOne full-time custodian to work 8 hours per day, from 1:45pm-10:15pm, Monday through Friday on a 261 day calendar. Split shift working 4 hours at Worthington Estates and 4 hours at TWHS. Responsible for performing routine cleaning, maintenance, and operation tasks in and around a school building.Job Duties:Dust mops floors in classrooms, hallways, locker rooms, auditorium, and stairsSweeps, mops, and scrubs restrooms, sinks, toilets, partitions, and mirrorsSweeps stairs, hallways, gyms, and classroomsLifts heavy objects; i.e., garbage cans, mop buckets and ringers, containers of wax and chemicals, boxes, cleaning equipment, and paper productsVacuums carpeted floorsApplies wax to floors and buffs floorsStrips wax from floorsEmpties trash receptaclesMoves furniture, equipment, and suppliesSets and de-arms security systemSweeps and shovels snow and de-ices steps and entrance waysChanges ballasts on florescent light fixtures; changes light bulbsChanges batteries and lightbulbs on emergency exit lightsClimbs ladders and adjusts ladders to replace lightbulbs and to clean light fixturesReports and cleans up damage from vandalismObserves and assists students in halls or areas in which the custodian is workingInforms day or head custodian orally or in writing of problems that are encounteredSets up for meetingsPerforms minor maintenance tasksJob Skills & Abilities:Knowledge of methods used in custodial workKnowledge of equipment used in custodial workKnowledge of various cleaning solutionsSome knowledge of the proper use of fire extinguishersSome knowledge of tile floorsSome knowledge of work safetyAbility to read and writeAbility to use minor hand and power toolsAbility to operate heavy duty industrial size buffersAbility to perform heavy physical labor (for example: lifts heavy objects, bend, twist, climb ladders, lift arms above head, etc.)Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and the publicAbility to use technology to complete daily and assigned tasks appropriate for the position*Salary Range $23.52/hr to $29.85/hr*
