Title: Kindergarten through 4th grade Learning Support Specialist The Miami Valley School (MVS) in Dayton, Ohio offers a unique learning opportunity focused on transformative, immersive education for young learners. The Role MVS is seeking a dynamic, innovative K‑4 Learning Support Specialist committed to inclusivity in all they do. The ideal candidate is passionate and skillful as an intervention specialist, eager to implement the MVS specific Learning Support program in collaboration with the learning support specialists supporting other grade levels. This position provides kindergarten to 4th grade learning support program oversight and instruction, including day‑to‑day management of student academic learning support. Collaborate with the Learning Support Team to develop continuity of the Learning Support Program from kindergarten through 12th grade. Participate fully in the life of the lower school. Effectively communicate, as needed, with students, caregivers, faculty, and administrators. Demonstrate a collaborative and collegial spirit, building rapport with other members of the administration, faculty, staff, parents, and students. Embrace the vision of Mastery Teaching and Mastery Performance in their daily activities. Serve as an instructional leader on Mind, Brain and Education (MBE) strategies. Compassionately engage, inspire, and nurture students. Demonstrate passion for teaching and learning. Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the field of learning support. Primary Responsibilities Review/maintain student records/files, analyze psycho‑educational reports, and provide recommendations based on these reports. Provide academic support for students, including those with a Reading Intervention Monitoring Plan. Support grade level homeroom teachers in administering, scoring, and analyzing reading and math assessments. Review admissions applications in collaboration with the appropriate division director and Learning Support Team leader to anticipate the needs of future students. Support assigned students receiving accommodations through MVS’ Learning Support System. Consult with faculty members, administration, parents and outside professionals regularly to monitor student progress and amend Learning Profile as needed. Meet with students to discuss and develop strategies for learning difficulties. Present Mind, Brain, and Education (MBE) and Executive Functioning strategies at faculty and student meetings. Participate fully in the life of the school, particularly the January Immersion term. Qualifications Undergraduate Degree in Education, Special Education, Intervention Specialist or equivalent. For those without an undergraduate degree in Special Education or Intervention Specialist, having or working toward a Master’s Degree in Special Education or Intervention Specialist. Intervention Specialist licensure or commitment to actively pursue licensure is required. Knowledge of various learning styles and the impact of disabilities on learning. Experience working in a lower school setting is preferred, but not required.
