Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) Location: Asheville, NC Project Type: Federal Healthcare Construction Work Location: On-site at a VA Medical Center Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer to manage daily construction safety activities for an interior renovation project at a VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina. The project includes renovations to office areas, conference rooms, restrooms, support spaces, and building systems within an active healthcare facility. The SSHO will work closely with project management, subcontractors, trade personnel, and facility representatives to ensure construction activities are completed safely and in accordance with OSHA standards, EM 385-1-1 requirements, and project-specific safety procedures. Key Responsibilities Serve as the designated Site Safety and Health Officer for the project. Oversee daily safety activities for all on-site construction work. Ensure contractors and subcontractors comply with OSHA standards, EM 385-1-1 requirements, and the project Accident Prevention Plan. Conduct and document daily safety inspections. Identify unsafe conditions, implement corrective actions, and track deficiencies through completion. Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and recurring safety meetings. Prepare and maintain Activity Hazard Analyses for applicable construction activities. Review subcontractor safety plans and coordinate safety requirements with project management and trade partners. Monitor demolition, interior construction, and mechanical, electrical, plumbing, communications, and low-voltage work. Verify proper use of personal protective equipment and other required safety controls. Manage incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and hazard mitigation. Maintain required safety records, inspection reports, training documentation, logs, and incident reports. Coordinate construction safety requirements within an active healthcare environment. Stop unsafe work when necessary and confirm hazards have been corrected before work resumes. Project Scope Construction activities may include: Selective interior demolition Renovation of offices, conference rooms, restrooms, and support areas Installation of new walls, doors, flooring, ceilings, and interior finishes Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing modifications Communications and low-voltage system installation Coordination of multiple subcontractors and construction trades Work performed within or near active medical center operations Required Qualifications Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification Current CPR and First Aid certification Completed EM 385-1-1 safety training Previous experience serving as an SSHO or construction safety professional Experience supporting federal government construction projects Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and EM 385-1-1 requirements Experience developing or managing Activity Hazard Analyses and project safety documentation Ability to conduct inspections, recognize hazards, and implement corrective actions Strong safety leadership, communication, and documentation skills Ability to work effectively with project managers, subcontractors, trade personnel, and government representatives Ability to work on-site in Asheville, North Carolina, and actively monitor construction operations Preferred Qualifications Previous experience supporting construction at a VA Medical Center or another federal healthcare facility Safety experience involving occupied-facility renovations Experience coordinating safety requirements across multiple construction trades Experience supporting interior renovation and building-system modification projects Qualified candidates should submit an updated resume and copies of their OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid, EM 385-1-1 training, and other applicable safety credentials. #J-18808-Ljbffr
