Sterile Processing Technician Job Details

• Location: Columbus, Ohio
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,080–$1,160
• Assignment Type: Travel sterile processing assignment
• Start Date: November 30, 2026
• Duration: 13 weeks
• Shift: 8-hour day shifts, approximately 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
• Schedule: 5 shifts per week; flexibility for weekend schedules may be required
• Healthcare Setting: High-volume acute-care hospital and surgical services environment
• Float: May be required between multiple nearby sterile processing locations
• Orientation: Approximately 40 hours

Sterile Processing Technician Qualifications

• At least 3 years of recent sterile processing experience in a busy acute-care or trauma facility
• Previous travel experience is not required; first-time travelers with the required sterile processing experience are welcome
• Required experience with Medivator systems
• Experience with decontamination, instrument assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection, and sterile storage
• Proficiency with steam and low-temperature sterilization, including STERRAD systems
• Experience reprocessing flexible and rigid endoscopes, including scopes used in GI, pulmonary, urology, and surgical procedures
• Experience with robotic instruments, drills, loaner instrumentation, case carts, surgical trays, and multiple service lines
• Working knowledge of Censitrac or a comparable instrument-tracking system; Epic experience is preferred
• Current CBSPD certification or CRCST certification through HSPA is required
• Trauma Level II experience is required; Level I trauma experience is preferred
• Ability to complete Ohio fingerprinting and credentialing requirements promptly after acceptance
• Two professional references are required, including at least one reference from a manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader

Sterile Processing Technician Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and medical equipment
• Process instrumentation for a broad range of specialties, including trauma, orthopedics, cardiovascular, neurology, general surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, plastics, urology, vascular, transplant, and robotic surgery
• Perform manual cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning, automated washer processing, steam sterilization, low-temperature sterilization, and high-level disinfection according to established standards
• Reprocess endoscopes and specialized equipment using automated endoscope reprocessors and Medivator systems
• Assemble instrument sets and trays accurately, select appropriate wrapping materials, label packages, and verify sterilization indicators and documentation
• Support operating room readiness by preparing case carts, responding to urgent instrumentation needs, and maintaining accurate preference cards
• Track instruments and equipment through Censitrac or a comparable tracking platform
• Serve as a liaison between sterile processing and perioperative teams to coordinate instrumentation, resolve discrepancies, and promote safe patient care
• Maintain sterile storage areas and ensure processed items are properly stored, rotated, and delivered
• Follow infection prevention, safety, quality assurance, and regulatory procedures at all times
