: Accounting Technician
Position Summary
The Accounting Technician – Cash Receipting is responsible for processing, recording, and reconciling incoming payments accurately and in a timely manner. This role supports the accounting function by maintaining financial records, researching payment discrepancies, and helping ensure strong internal accounting controls. Based on general knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
Receive, review, and post cash, check, ACH, wire, and credit card payments to the appropriate accounts. Based on general knowledge.
Prepare daily cash receipts batches and ensure all transactions are entered accurately into the accounting system. Based on general knowledge.
Reconcile daily cash postings to bank deposits and supporting documentation. Based on general knowledge.
Research and resolve payment discrepancies, unapplied cash, short payments, and overpayments. Based on general knowledge.
Maintain detailed and organized records of receipts, deposits, and adjustments. Based on general knowledge.
Assist with month-end closing activities related to cash receipts and account reconciliations. Based on general knowledge.
Communicate with internal departments and external contacts regarding remittance details and payment issues. Based on general knowledge.
- Reviews, verifies, and records a variety of accounting and financial transactions in accordance with established processes and procedures; posts, balances, and reconciles transactions to the general ledger; calculates and makes adjustments; allocates payments to proper account; verifies account balances and available funds; prepares and maintains deposit and treasurer receipts; prepares adjusting journal entries; records changes and resolves discrepancies.
- Reviews and processes checks and payments in batches; prepares documentation for payment; coordinates management review and approval of batches; contacts departments and/or vendors to make corrections or request additional information when necessary; enters and verifies data into the financial management system to produce payment; prints checks; prepares positive pay or electronic funds transfer (EFT) and submits to the bank; attaches copies of checks and backup documentation to vouchers and purchase orders.
