The Opportunity: We are seeking a Physician (MD or DO) to serve as Medical Director in a full-time, exempt position. The Medical Director provides leadership, clinical oversight, and direct patient care within the primary care program. The provider team is highly dedicated to the community they serve, and are driven by their passion of mission, focus on exceptional patient care, and commitment to workforce excellence. The Medical Director position is an 60/40 split of clinical and admin time (respectively) and reports to the Chief Clinical Officer who serves as oversight of all of primary care. The Medical Director leads a team of physicians and advanced practice providers and works collaboratively with the Practice Operations Managers (at the main clinic location and Medical Respite), nursing team, social services, and behavioral health leadership in an integrated model. The ideal candidate will have experience leading and mentoring a clinical team, a background in community health, primary care, urgent care, or family practice, and will also have a strong interest in bringing their personal experience and voice to strategic goals, innovations in patient access/care, and community engagement. The submission period for materials will begin September 25, 2026, and will remain open until an appointment has been made. Target date to hire for this position will be no later than December 31, 2026, with a position start date no later than February 1, 2027. Duties and Responsibilities: Engage in performance management and coaching/development of medical staff through performance reviews and regular feedback. Spearheads peer review process for medical providers. Coordinate continuity of care for AHCH patients hospitalized and through medical respite upon release. Participate in annual planning, budget, and service goal development for medical program. Serve as liaison to UNM School of Medicine, hospitals and professional organizations, other safety net system providers. Coordinate clinical precepting and clinical orientation and training of medical students and residents. Participate on management team, manager/coordinator meetings regularly and board meetings periodically. Ensure QI/QA and compliance of medical practice; serves as a member of Quality Review and Improvement Committee (QRIC) As a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee implement periodic review and update of formulary. Providing and modeling comprehensive patient care to the target population during working hours in clinic locations and on street medicine outreaches throughout the Bernalillo County service area. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to balance long-term strategic vision with addressing day-to-day issues. Willingness to work at multiple locations in Bernalillo county including in the field on street medicine outreach. Experience in health data analytics and ability to use data to communicate relationship between accomplishing productivity goals to patient outcomes and the financial sustainability of the organization. Have a strong desire to work in an integrated/cross-disciplinary team model. Current MD or DO licensed or eligible to practice in New Mexico with a specialty in primary care, addiction medicine, urgent care, or related field. Current DEA and CSR license. 3 or more years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting Preferred Qualifications: 1 or more years in Medical Director role. Previous experience with outreach/street medicine. Clinical experience with underserved populations, those with SMI and substance use disorder. Previous experience working in a FQHC. Bilingual Spanish/English.
