Diagnostic Teacher Consultant - Special Education - Hartford K-12 Beginning 2026-27 School Year Starting Date: Aug 17, 2026 Job Description Job Goal(s): The primary job role of the Diagnostic Consultant is to serve as a member of a multidisciplinary evaluation team. They will assist in the comprehensive academic achievement assessment of students suspected of having a disability, and help identify effective interventions. Location of Work Offsite: Hartford Public Schools Base Location: Special Services Building 701 South Paw Paw Street, Lawrence, MI 49064 Minimum Qualifications Education: Master’s degree required. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree who are willing to pursue a master’s degree may also be considered. Certification: Valid Michigan teaching certificate with approval in at least one area of special education. Other special education certification may also be considered. Work Experience: Minimum of three years of teaching or ancillary experience preferred. Skills: Knowledge and experience using a variety of academic assessments Ability to provide consultation and coaching Ability to provide training and assist with implementation of interventions in both general and special education settings Well‑developed professional writing skills Understanding of multiple perspectives (superintendent, ISD vs LEA, principal, special education teacher, general education teacher, support staff, parent) Quality for strong team cohesiveness Essential Job Functions Use a variety of academic assessments/evaluations to aid the multidisciplinary team in determining eligibility for special education programs and services. Provide analysis and interpretation of information and data in oral/written reports. Interpret diagnostic findings to parents and team members in a user‑friendly format. Provide recommendations, goals, objectives to address needs. Assist staff in developing academic and behavioral interventions. Demonstrate understanding of logic and application of an MTSS model. Consult with all parties on data collection and analysis. Use data‑based decision making to lead a problem‑solving model. Conduct IEP meetings and assist in ongoing review of strategies for students. Monitor the integrity of intervention plans. Assist in aligning goals and objectives from the LEA/ISD team process to meet student needs. Exhibit a high level of professionalism and ability to handle confidential information. Demonstrate regular and reliable, in‑person attendance. Valid driver’s license required.
