Job Description

The Mechanical Assembler builds mechanical components, subassemblies, and finished products using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments. This role follows detailed engineering drawings, blueprints, bills of materials, and work instructions to perform accurate mechanical fitting, fastening, alignment, and adjustment of components to meet product specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical components, subassemblies, and finished products using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
• Interpret and follow engineering drawings, blueprints, bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions, and assembly procedures.
• Perform mechanical fitting, fastening, alignment, and adjustment of components to meet product specifications and tolerances.
• Inspect completed assemblies for accuracy, quality, and compliance with company standards.
• Conduct functional testing of assemblies and troubleshoot minor assembly issues, making necessary adjustments.
• Identify and report quality concerns, material shortages, equipment issues, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Maintain accurate production records and complete all required documentation in a timely manner.
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with 5S principles and safety standards.
• Assist in training and mentoring Mechanical Assembler I employees as needed to support team development.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to resolve assembly-related issues and support continuous improvement.
• Meet daily production schedules while maintaining established quality and safety expectations.
• Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements during operation.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2+ years of mechanical assembly experience in a production or fabrication environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and assembly documentation.
• Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
• Experience with precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform accurate fitting, fastening, alignment, and adjustment of components.
• Attention to detail and ability to inspect assemblies for quality and adherence to specifications.
• Ability to follow written work instructions, bills of materials, and standardized assembly procedures.
• Basic troubleshooting skills to identify and correct minor assembly and functional issues.
• Ability to maintain organized documentation and production records.
• Commitment to working safely and complying with safety and regulatory requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a fabrication and assembly environment.
• Familiarity with 5S workplace organization principles.
• Comfort working with production teams and quality personnel to resolve technical issues.
• Ability to support and mentor less experienced assemblers.
• Strong communication skills to report quality concerns, material shortages, and equipment issues.
• Reliability in meeting production schedules and maintaining consistent output.
• Willingness to participate in continuous improvement initiatives and process enhancements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bloomingdale, IL.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $22.00/hr.
