Position Summary


The Development Director is responsible for leading and executing the organization's comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure the financial resources needed to achieve our mission. This position cultivates and manages relationships with foundations, corporations, major donors, community partners, and individual supporters while overseeing grant writing, donor stewardship, annual giving campaigns, special fundraising initiatives, and revenue forecasting.


The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with strong communication skills, a passion for nonprofit work, and a proven ability to build lasting donor relationships that result in increased philanthropic support.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy

• Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan aligned with the organization's strategic goals.
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual, corporate, foundation, and government funding sources.
• Diversify revenue streams to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
• Establish annual fundraising goals and monitor progress toward revenue targets.

Donor Relations

• Build and maintain meaningful relationships with donors, prospects, sponsors, and community partners.
• Create personalized stewardship plans that strengthen donor engagement and retention.
• Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and lead donor cultivation activities.

Grants & Institutional Giving

• Research new funding opportunities.
• Oversee grant writing, proposal development, reporting, and compliance.
• Maintain strong relationships with foundation and institutional funders.

Campaigns & Events

• Lead annual giving campaigns and fundraising initiatives.
• Support fundraising events, sponsorship opportunities, and donor recognition programs.
• Collaborate with staff and volunteers to maximize fundraising success.

Operations & Leadership

• Develop fundraising systems, processes, and donor management practices.
• Track fundraising performance using data and key performance indicators.
• Prepare revenue forecasts and regular reports for leadership and the Board of Directors.
• Work collaboratively with finance, programs, communications, and executive leadership to align fundraising efforts with organizational priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, communications, business, marketing, or a related field.
• Three to five years of progressive nonprofit fundraising or development experience (more preferred).
• Demonstrated success securing grants, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, or annual giving support.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with donor databases or CRM systems.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to build authentic relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Passion for the mission and values of the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential or progress toward certification.
• Experience working with nonprofit boards.
• Knowledge of donor stewardship best practices and moves management.
