About The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Accountant to lead a team of professional accounting staff responsible for complex court wide reconciliation and financial reporting functions. This role is ideal for a strong leader who is passionate about safeguarding public funds, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial operations. The Senior Accountant will oversee bank and trust account reconciliations, guide the proper distribution of court-collected funds, and resolve complex accounting discrepancies. In addition to supervising staff, this position serves as a key technical resource and liaison with internal departments and external agencies. Key Responsibilities Supervise, train, motivate, and evaluate the work of assigned staff. Provide constructive feedback to address performance gaps, including performance management and disciplinary recommendations. Oversee and approve reconciliation of bank, trust, case management systems, and financial system accounts to ensure accuracy, compliance, and fraud prevention. Monitor and control the distribution, deposit, and proper accounting of court-collected funds, including adjustments, refunds, disbursements, and discrepancy resolution. Analyze complex accounting issues, implement process improvements, and provide technical guidance on financial and case management systems. Conduct special research assignments, gather and analyze data, and prepare reports for management review and decision making. Collaborate with staff across various court divisions to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical accounting and financial reporting challenges. Independently organize work, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments. Serve as liaison with internal departments and external agencies to resolve accounting discrepancies and ensure compliance with applicable laws and policies. THIS IS A TELEWORK ELIGIBLE OPPORTUNITY This position may be eligible for partial telework following an initial training period and contingent upon the needs of the Court. Minimum Requirements To qualify, you must meet one of the following options at the final filing date of this bulletin: OPTION I: Completion of 21 semester or 32 quarter units of accounting courses*, including at least two (2) courses in advanced accounting subjects, such as auditing, cost accounting, or governmental accounting -AND- six (6) years of recent professional accounting or auditing experience, two (2) years of which must have involved the performance of complex professional accounting duties in the analysis, preparation, and maintenance of financial records and reports, as well as the review and reconciliation of journal entries, accounts, and funds. OPTION II: Bachelor’s degree* from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in accounting, finance, or closely related field, including a minimum of 21 semester or 32 quarter units of accounting courses -AND- four (4) years of recent professional accounting or auditing experience, two (2) years of which must have involved the performance of complex professional accounting duties in the analysis, preparation, and maintenance of financial records and reports, as well as the review and reconciliation of journal entries, accounts, and funds. Note: Credit for experience is based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a pro rate basis (e.g. working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience). Overtime does not count toward additional credit. Desirable Qualifications Advanced knowledge of governmental and enterprise accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls. Strong leadership and supervisory skills, including experience managing professional accounting staff. Experience with financial and case management systems, including system implementations or enhancements. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports and present recommendations clearly.
