Clayton Services is searching for an experienced Project Accountant to join a thriving commercial construction company in Houston, Texas. The Project Accountant will be responsible for supporting project accounting and accounts receivable functions, including construction billing, retainage management, lien documentation, financial tracking, and related accounting activities.

Job Type: Temp-to-Hire Pay Rate: $28.85 - $33.65/hour Benefits: Excellent benefits are available after the successful completion of the temporary period, including medical, dental, vision, 401(K), PTO, and more.

Project Accountant Responsibilities:

• Prepare and process AIA construction billings, including G702/G703 applications for payment.
• Manage accounts receivable and billing activities for assigned commercial construction projects.
• Monitor retainage and ensure billing records remain accurate throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare and maintain construction lien documentation, releases, and waivers.
• Track project financial activity and assist with monitoring costs and revenue against established budgets.
• Maintain project budgets and related accounting information within company systems.
• Support accurate revenue recognition and project financial reporting.
• Monitor outstanding receivables and provide updates regarding billing and collection activity.
• Research and resolve billing discrepancies, payment issues, and accounting variances.
• Process project-related expenses and other recurring accounting entries.
• Submit invoices and supporting documentation through construction management and customer payment portals.
• Maintain complete and accurate accounting records for assigned projects.

Project Accountant Skills and Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of AIA billing processes and construction accounts receivable.
• Understanding of retainage, mechanic's liens, lien releases, and lien waivers.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
• Experience utilizing construction or project accounting software.
• Familiarity with online construction management, billing, and payment platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Project Accountant Education and Experience:

• 3+ years of accounting experience within the commercial construction industry required.
• Previous project accounting, construction billing, or accounts receivable experience required.
• Hands-on AIA billing experience required.
• Experience with retainage and construction lien documentation required.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
• Experience with construction-specific accounting or project management systems preferred.
