Position Overview

The Director of Finance owns all financial management, accounting operations, fiscal strategy, and reporting for Borboleta Beauty. Reporting directly to Executive Leadership, this role manages the finance team, ensures full compliance, maintains tight cash and inventory controls, and provides strategic insights to drive profitable growth across our direct-to-consumer (DTC) and wholesale channels.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Financial Management & FP&A
  • Total Financial Ownership: Maintain ultimate accountability for all financial, accounting, and fiscal needs across the business.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Build, maintain, and enforce company budgets. Continuously analyze sales team forecasts against actual performance to ensure top-line growth translates to bottom-line profitability.
  • Executive & Board Reporting:
    • Deliver a monthly Financial Executive Summary to the Leadership Team following month-end close.
    • Prepare and deliver comprehensive financial packages and executive summaries to the Board of Directors by the 20th of each month.
  • Strategic Leadership: Report to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team; partner in setting company strategy, driving business performance, and modeling company culture and values.
• Cash Flow, Capital & Banking Management
  • Cash Flow Optimization: Actively monitor, model, and manage rolling cash flow forecasts to guarantee liquidity and profitable cash generation.
  • Banking Relations & Compliance: Own primary relationships with banking partners. Submit required quarterly financial reports and ensure total compliance with all debt facilities, credit lines, and loan covenants.
  • Working Capital Efficiency: Manage merchant processing accounts, payout schedules, and overall working capital cycles specific to direct-to-consumer (DTC) and wholesale channels.
• Inventory Governance & Stock Reconciliations
  • Quarterly Physical Counts: Direct, schedule, and oversee full quarterly physical inventory counts across all warehouses, 3PL partners, and storage facilities.
  • Inventory Reconciliations: Perform systematic quarterly reconciliations between physical inventory counts, inventory management software, and general ledger accounts. Identify, investigate, and record necessary adjustments for variances, shrinkage, damage, or obsolete stock.
  • Inventory Health & Turnover: Partner closely with operations and supply chain teams to monitor safety stock, valuation metrics, deadstock exposure, and turnover rates to keep working capital liquid.
  • Margin & Costing Alignment: Regularly review Unit Economics, Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), landed costs, and freight charges to safeguard gross margins.
• Accounting Operations & Month-End Close
  • Month-End Close: Direct the close process to consistently finalize company books by the 10th of every month.
  • Team Leadership & Management: Oversee and develop the accounting and finance team, ensuring high-standard performance across all sub-functions.
  • Accounts Payable (AP): Oversee AP operations to ensure timely payments, fair partner communications, and optimal payment terms.
  • Accounts Receivable (AR): Manage AR processes to ensure timely cash collections, minimize bad debt, and streamline credit terms for wholesale and salon partners.
  • Expense Management: Maintain strict governance over corporate credit cards, expense reports, and approval workflows to eliminate unnecessary spending.
• Tax, Insurance & Compliance
  • Tax Compliance & Coordination: Ensure all year-end tax documentation (W-9s, W-2s, 1099s) is accurate and distributed on time. Gather and deliver all necessary accounting records to external CPAs for tax filings.
  • Sales Tax Management: Oversee multi-state sales tax compliance, nexus tracking, and filings across e-commerce channels.
  • Risk & Insurance Management: Direct all aspects of business, liability, and property insurance, negotiating competitive rates to ensure fair market value and timely payments.
  • Audit & Investor Diligence: Lead and compile data for all external diligence requests, including financial audits, investor inquiries, insurance reviews, and tax audits.
• Payroll & Systems Infrastructure
  • Payroll Administration: Ensure all payroll runs accurately, compliantly, and on schedule.
  • Financial Tech Stack: Manage and optimize core accounting systems (e.g., Acumatica, Fulfill.IO, QuickBooks) and ensure seamless integrations with e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify), inventory tools, and payment gateways.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 3-5+ years of progressive financial and accounting leadership, ideally as a Controller, Senior Finance Manager, or Director of Finance in consumer goods, e-commerce, or beauty retail.
• E-Commerce & Wholesale Knowledge: Strong understanding of DTC unit economics, merchant processor cycles, multi-state sales tax nexus, and 3PL/inventory management.
• Hands-on Technical Skills: Advanced financial modeling, budgeting, and proficiency with systems such as Acumatica, QuickBooks, and Shopify.
• Inventory Mastery: Proven track record in physical count oversight, inventory valuation, and margin guardrails.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
