The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) is a nationally recognized institution with over 65,000 works of art and a mission to provide an inclusive cultural experience. MFAH seeks a Security Manager to lead a team of security officers across all museum facilities. Position Details Title: Security Manager Reports To: Assistant Head of Security – Galleries Classification: Exempt Schedule: 40‑hour work week (Wed–Sun; may work Monday holidays and occasionally other days) Overtime: No Work Location: All MFAH facilities Salary: $49,490 per year Job Summary The Security Manager provides day‑to‑day leadership to a team of security officers, serving as the department’s face to guests, staff, and volunteers. Responsibilities include ensuring the physical security of museum assets, maintaining safety of occupants, and enforcing museum policies. Leadership Responsibilities Lead up to 20 security officers Conduct roll call, assign duties, and take attendance Provide verbal and written counseling on performance Partner with the Assistant Head of Security for performance evaluations Write incident reports and prepare shift hand‑off documentation Deliver individual and group training on security topics Conduct briefings and orientations for new team members Implement museum and department policies fairly and consistently Mentor, train, and develop staff Maintain a visible presence in galleries to support guests General Responsibilities Coordinate daily operations, including scheduling, payroll, and incident reporting Ensure officers maintain a tidy appearance and carry required equipment Protect occupants and museum assets from injury or theft Verify third‑party compliance with security policies and enforce corrective actions Provide guest directions, information, and enforce rules Perform opening and closing procedures for all facilities Serve on the emergency response team and be ready for inclement weather or other emergencies Offer guidance on security procedures and ensure adherence to policies Escalate security or performance issues to appropriate personnel Build and maintain collaborative relationships across departments Participate in cross‑functional project teams Handle guest feedback and incidents Monitor staffing levels and manage equipment issuance Ensure officers understand and follow post and special orders Lead evacuations and emergency response as assigned Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Strong customer‑service orientation and ability to anticipate guest needs Experience managing a diverse workforce, including hiring, training, and motivation Proficient written and verbal English communication Professional appearance in line with department guidelines Ability to draft clear preliminary investigative reports and interview witnesses Flexibility to work varying shifts and special events beyond scheduled shifts Sound decision‑making capabilities Hold or obtain First Responder, CPR, and related certifications annually Administer First Aid and CPR, including assistance with lifting and moving victims, if required Remain calm in high‑stress situations (fire, medical emergencies, violent incidents) Basic computer skills and aptitude for learning department software Understand radio, telephone, and other equipment usage May be designated essential personnel and required to report to work during emergencies Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or five years of related experience Minimum three years of direct security team supervision Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic business acumen Clear criminal background report; 18 years or older; able to perform essential tasks with or without accommodations Level‑2 Non‑Commissioned Security Guard license (Texas) in good standing or qualification to obtain National criminal background check to maintain private security commission status Valid state ID or driver’s license required for application Bilingual preferred Working Conditions and Physical Demands Stand and walk for long periods; use stairs Eye and hearing requirements (minimum 20/40 with corrective lens) Distinguish standard colors Hear normal conversation at 15‑foot distance Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds Work outdoors in inclement weather if needed Equal Opportunity Employment MFAH is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
