This role is a low- to mid-level pump mechanic position within a busy service and repair operation. As a Pump Technician, you will work on a wide range of pumpsincluding vertical, horizontal, split-case, submersible, BB2, BB4, and BB5 unitsperforming overhauls, repairs, swaps, and installations both in the shop and in the field. You will use precision measuring instruments, support senior mechanics, and travel to customer sites approximately 25%50% of the time to complete field repairs and installations.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical repair, overhaul, and maintenance on various pump types, including vertical, horizontal, split-case, submersible, BB2, BB4, and BB5 pumps.
• Assist the Pump Mechanic Supervisor with pump overhauls, rebuilds, and repairs in the shop.
• Travel to customer sites, ports, barges, and refineries 25%50% of the time to perform pump repairs, swaps, and installations.
• Use measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, and OD and ID micrometers to inspect, diagnose, and verify tolerances.
• Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to guide repair, assembly, and installation work.
• Perform mechanical assembly and disassembly of pump components using hand tools and appropriate equipment.
• Conduct troubleshooting on mechanical systems, including pumps, motors, drives, and related components.
• Perform general mechanical labor tasks such as oil changes, cleaning, and basic maintenance to ensure reliable pump operation.
• Apply laser alignment techniques to align pumps and motors as needed.
• Follow Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information and safety procedures when handling materials and performing work.
• Collaborate with other pump mechanics and machinists on day shift to complete jobs efficiently and accurately.
• Maintain and use personal tools appropriately while keeping work areas organized in a busy, space-constrained shop.
• Demonstrate leadership qualities and a commitment to building a long-term career within the company.

Essential Skills

• At least 3+ years of pump mechanic or pump technician experience.
• Strong experience working with vertical turbine pumps.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and hands-on mechanical repair skills.
• Proficiency using measuring tools, including measuring tape, calipers, and OD and ID micrometers.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Experience with pump repair, mechanical assembly, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to perform repairs, swaps, and installations both in the shop and in the field.
• Valid TWIC card for access to ports, barges, and refineries.
• Ownership of appropriate hand tools for mechanical and pump work.
• Comfort working in a busy, industrial shop environment and in field locations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous field experience performing mechanical repairs or installations at customer sites.
• Experience with laser alignment of pumps and motors.
• Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and safe handling of materials.
• Understanding of motors, drives, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
• Leadership experience or demonstrated potential to lead and mentor others.
• Desire to stay with a company long term and build a stable career.
• Ability to perform general labor tasks, mechanical troubleshooting, and oil changes as part of pump maintenance.
• Comfort working with hand tools and performing mechanical assembly in a shop setting.

Work Environment

The role is based in a small, busy shop where parts and pumps are stored throughout the space due to high business volume. The current shop is not air-conditioned and is tight on space, with plans to move into a larger facility in 2027. Day shift typically includes one manual machinist and two pump mechanics, creating a close-knit, collaborative team environment. Standard hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with an average of 4050 hours per week and the potential for additional overtime as more contracts are signed. Approximately 25%50% of the work is performed in the field at ports, barges, and refineries, focusing on installations and repairs. The role requires wearing steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses, reflecting a practical industrial dress code appropriate for shop and field conditions.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Channelview, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $31.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
