About the Role

Important Location Requirement:  This position requires regular travel to customer job sites throughout the northern Illinois areas. Candidates should live within a reasonable driving distance of the primary service area.  Ideal locations include Sycamore, Oswego, Elburn, Cortland and surrounding communities.

Water Remediation Technology (WRT) is looking for a Media Exchange Technician to join our Field Services team. This is a hands-on field position supporting WRT water treatment systems serving municipal and industrial customers throughout North America.

In this role, you will perform media exchange operations, operate field equipment, support system maintenance, and work directly with customers at their facilities. You'll work with ion exchange resins, filtration media, and activated carbon while helping ensure our customers' treatment systems continue to operate effectively.

What You'll Do

• Perform removal, replacement, and installation of ion exchange resins, filtration media, and activated carbon used in water treatment applications.
• Operate vacuum systems and other equipment used for media removal and loading; manual loading or slurry transfer methods may also be required.
• Provide on-site support for media exchange, system maintenance, inspections, and related field service activities.
• Monitor system performance and assist with identifying mechanical and operational issues.
• Operate forklifts, telehandlers, company vehicles, trailers, and other equipment used in field operations.
• Coordinate with customers, trucking companies, drivers, laboratories, and internal WRT teams to support scheduled media exchange activities.
• Perform preventative maintenance, system inspections, and basic field testing.
• Document media exchange activities, equipment inspections, testing results, materials used, and other service activities accurately.
• Communicate professionally with customers, address concerns, and communicate equipment or operational issues to the appropriate WRT personnel.
• Follow established safety procedures and regulatory requirements when handling water treatment media and specialized materials.
• Work with municipal water treatment media that may contain low levels of radioactive material.
• Support Field Service Technicians, Water Technicians, and other field personnel with media exchange and related activities.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps and valves.
• Basic understanding of workplace safety practices and proper use of PPE.
• Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work, including handling hoses, equipment, treatment media, and materials.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow written procedures and work instructions.
• Ability to follow established procedures for handling specialized materials and maintaining regulatory compliance.
• Experience in customer service, field service, construction, industrial operations, maintenance, utilities, or a related environment.
• Ability to safely operate or learn to operate forklifts, telehandlers, and other material-handling equipment.
• Experience using computers, mobile devices, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Willingness and ability to travel throughout North America, including up to 50% overnight travel.
• Ability to work early morning schedules as operational needs require.
• Ability to successfully complete required pre-employment screening.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience or knowledge of water treatment systems, distribution systems, or related industrial processes.
• Previous experience in mechanical, electrical, industrial construction, environmental, field service, or equipment maintenance work.
• Experience working with pressurized water systems, filtration systems, flow meters, vessels, pumps, valves, or related process equipment.
• Experience operating forklifts, telehandlers, or other material-handling equipment.
• Familiarity with low-level radioactive material handling, containment practices, or other regulated materials.
• Radiological, HAZMAT, DOT, or other safety-related training.
• Experience working in a regulated industrial or water treatment environment.
• Training or coursework in pump maintenance, valve maintenance, vibration screen maintenance, or related mechanical systems.
• Demonstrated initiative by taking on additional responsibilities, improving work processes, or assisting with projects beyond assigned duties.
• Proven ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and coordinate activities in a fast-paced field environment.
• Strong communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in the field.
• Interest in continued professional development and opportunities to expand responsibilities.

What You Can Expect

This is a hands-on position where no two days are necessarily the same. You'll travel to customer sites, work with different equipment and treatment systems, and collaborate with WRT employees, customers, trucking partners, and other field professionals.

The work can be physically demanding and may involve working outdoors and in industrial environments. You'll work around equipment, dust, noise, chemicals, and water treatment media and will be expected to follow all required safety procedures and use appropriate PPE.

Travel is an important part of the position, with up to 50% overnight travel throughout North America.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
• Climb ladders and access elevated work areas.
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Work in confined spaces when properly trained and authorized.
• Wear required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, dust masks, and respirators.
• Safely work around chemicals, fumes, dust, and other industrial materials encountered in water treatment and field service environments.
