Staff Accountant

Staff AccountantThe Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial schedules, performing general accounting tasks, and managing full cycle accounts payable processes. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent relevant accounting experience. This role supports the month-end close process, prepares and files state sales tax returns, reconciles accounts, and ensures the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. The Staff Accountant must possess strong attention to detail, advanced Microsoft Excel skills, and the ability to work effectively within tight deadlines.ResponsibilitiesCompliance & ReportingPrepare and file state sales tax and respond to customer sales tax inquiriesCoordinate and ensure compliance with business licensing requirementsFinancial Analysis & Account ReconciliationPrepare and analyze financial support documents to ensure accuracyReconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepanciesVerify and reconcile corporate credit card chargesMonth-End Close & General AccountingAssist in the month-end closing process, ensuring all accounts are reconciled and closed on timePrepare and post journal entries to reflect financial activitiesMaintain the fixed asset system, ensuring accurate tracking and reportingSupport cash management activities, including managing payment exceptions and processing of ACH/wire paymentsFinancial Data Management & ReportingMaintain and update Excel spreadsheets for various markets, customers, and accounts, managing large datasets efficientlyGenerate supplemental reports as required by management for financial analysisKey Performance MetricsEnsure the timely and accurate completion of the month-end closing process, with all accounts fully reconciled each monthImprove the efficiency and accuracy of financial data management, including Excel models and schedulesFoster effective cross-functional collaboration within the Finance team and other departments to enhance communication and overall workflowMaintain compliance with closing reconciliations and reporting requirements for affiliated businessesSupport audits, including external and tax auditsTechnical SkillsAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of pivot tables, v-lookups, and complex formulasFamiliarity with NetSuite or similar accounting systems is a plusFamiliarity with Avalara and/or Sovos tax systems is a plusStrong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standardsAbility to manage large data sets and perform detailed analysis with high accuracyKnowledge of state sales tax regulations and filing requirementsPerformance ExpectationsPrice of Admission Competencies:Customer FocusEnsures financial accuracy and compliance by preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and managing sales tax filingsSupports internal teams with timely financial data and responses to inquiriesEnsures AccountabilityManages month-end closing, journal entries, and reconciliations.
