Senior Educational Outreach Coordinator

About The Department The Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) was established in May 2019 and evolved from the Institute for Molecular Engineering, founded in 2011. PME integrates science and engineering to address global challenges from the molecular level up. Through a unique partnership with Argonne National Laboratory, PME offers rigorous academic and research programs and is the first new school at the University of Chicago in three decades and the first school in the nation dedicated to molecular engineering. Job Summary The PME Senior Educational Outreach Coordinator supports the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of supplemental education and training programs for research‑related educational outreach and summer education programs. The role works directly with senior administrators to set program goals, coordinate outreach events, manage logistics for summer programs, train students in outreach, and maintain communication strategies across PME’s website, social media, and promotional materials. Responsibilities Implement and coordinate K-12, teacher, and undergraduate outreach and summer education programs, ensuring smooth operation and fulfillment of educational goals. Lead scheduling and organization of program logistics for outreach events, educational training workshops, and summer programs with faculty, students, staff, and partners. Coordinate, implement, and evaluate supplemental education programs for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, including science communications and mentor training. Build and maintain productive partnerships with educational, training, and outreach teams across the University. Participate in the development and implementation of sustainable and evidence‑based URM recruitment strategies; promote inclusive environments in all communications and outreach. Drive timely, clear communication about outreach opportunities, summer programs, events, and activities across all channels. Collaborate with PME and University communications teams to promote and highlight outreach and educational training programming. Maintain relationships with the Office of Civic Engagement, local K-12 schools, and broader outreach initiatives. Monitor budgets for outreach and summer programs. Evaluate and document program performance, recommending improvements when appropriate. Prepare program communications, including creation and coordination of dissemination of materials. Perform other related work as needed. Education Minimum: College or university degree in a related field. Bachelor's degree, preferably in education and/or a STEM‑related field. Graduate degree, preferably in education and/or a STEM‑related field. Experience 2–5 years of progressively increasing project management and educational outreach experience. Developing, implementing, and evaluating outreach programming. Background working in or with Chicago Public Schools, the City Colleges of Chicago, and/or other institutions serving URM student populations. Collaborate and facilitate work within a broad network of colleagues across disciplines, departments, and community partners. Technical Skills or Knowledge Familiarity with STEM subject matter in the context of K-12 education and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Preferred Competencies Strong interest in advancing the scientific endeavor through education, engagement, and access. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong networking and relationship‑building skills. Commitment to outreach educational mission focusing on equitable access and broadening participation in STEM.
