Lead Software Engineer - Java, AI & Kafka

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, with at least 8 years of applied experience
• Experience leading the effective use of approved AI-assisted development tools for coding, code review, testing, and troubleshooting, including setting standards to validate outputs for correctness, performance, and security
• Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, resiliency, and security; experience coaching engineers in safe, compliant adoption
• Practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
• Proficiency across the software development lifecycle and advanced knowledge of agile practices, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security
• Demonstrated technical expertise in a discipline such as cloud, AI, machine learning, or mobile
• Ability to resolve design and functionality challenges independently with minimal oversight
• Proficiency in Java, REST, and microservices, including event-driven microservices and Kafka streaming
• Experience with the Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and public or private cloud infrastructure
• Strong end-user support and problem-solving skills
• Preferred: Exposure to AI tools and Python, including Copilot in VS Code or IntelliJ
• Preferred: Familiarity with containerization and orchestration platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS
• Preferred: Knowledge of Kafka and messaging systems
• Preferred: Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases

• Develop creative software solutions, design and build systems, and troubleshoot technical challenges using approaches beyond routine methods
• Lead and encourage entry- to mid-level software engineers, fostering collaboration, innovation, and excellence
• Direct technical design, architecture, and implementation to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions
• Create architecture and design artifacts for complex applications and ensure development adheres to design constraints
• Analyze and visualize large, varied datasets and produce reporting to support ongoing improvement of applications and systems
• Identify recurring issues and opportunities to automate or eliminate remediation, strengthening operational stability
• Lead evaluations with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and suitability for existing systems
• Lead software engineering communities of practice and promote awareness and adoption of emerging technologies
• Encourage team use of enterprise-approved AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational results; establish validation standards for secure coding, peer review, and automated testing, and promote reusable patterns
