ASSOCIATE TRANSPORTATION PLANNER

Resiliency Planner – Associate Transportation Planner Salary: $7,328.00 – $9,178.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable. Final filing date: 6/15/2026. Job Summary Under the direction of the Resiliency Planning Branch Chief, the Associate Transportation Planner will work on and lead assignments independently and participate in team‑oriented tasks. The role involves coordinating, implementing, and mainstreaming climate change activities across Caltrans and with interagency partners, and leading and supporting activities related to resiliency planning, climate change adaptation, sustainability, and research and analysis to enhance the resiliency of California’s multimodal transportation system. Responsibilities Coordinate and implement climate change and resiliency planning initiatives across Caltrans and with interagency partners. Lead research and analysis projects related to climate change adaptation, sustainability, and multimodal transportation resilience. Prepare and present technical findings to stakeholders and support policy development and implementation. Minimum Requirements Minimum requirements as defined in the Class Specification. Possession of a valid driver’s license when operating a State‑owned or leased vehicle. Desirable Qualifications Ability to understand and communicate both verbally and in writing the principles, process, and procedural practices of transportation planning. Ability to independently compile, interpret, and summarize data and information using spreadsheets, word processing, and Excel applications. Ability to effectively work as an interdisciplinary team member. Ability to effectively prepare presentations using a variety of media, including computer presentation software, paper flip charts, and whiteboards. Familiarity with multi‑modal transportation and sustainable planning theory is preferred. Ability to analyze technical information and apply it in a variety of contexts, including for policy development, implementation, and transportation project delivery. Ability to execute project management skills to guide and complete projects and to communicate technical information clearly verbally and in writing.
