About the Position

Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 1 year MedSurg/Tele experience License: Required licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Cardiac rhythm interpretation, PCA pumps, wound care, and ability to manage specific infusions Description: The RN will work in a busy MedSurg/Tele unit. The unit has a capacity of 10 beds with an average daily census of 8 patients. Patient populations include a variety of MedSurg conditions. Common diagnoses include diabetes (no insulin gtts), respiratory illnesses, gastrointestinal illnesses, neurosurgery patients, trauma surgery patients, and patients on spinal precautions. The RN will also manage cardiac and CT surgery patients prior to their procedures. The standard patient ratio is 1 RN for every 5 patients. Support staff will include a CNA, who will assist the RN with vital signs, blood glucose checks, and activities of daily living. The RN will start their own IVs and be supported by a respiratory therapist available 24/7. There is also access to hospitalists and intensivists around the clock. The RN will be responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac strips at the bedside. Unit-specific equipment includes external fixators, chest tubes, PCAs, trachs, and complex wound care items.
