Clinical Pharmacist - Emergency Medicine

Position Overview This position monitors and evaluates drug therapy for appropriateness based on patient health status, institutional criteria, and cost‑efficiency measures. The pharmacist assumes responsibility for pharmacy services in assigned areas to improve patient outcomes, provides drug information to health care personnel, participates in patient care rounds, and mentors pharmacy students and residents. Work Schedule Seven on, seven off schedule. Job Duties Provides pharmacokinetic consultation, obtains and uses laboratory data to evaluate drug selection and dosing, and communicates findings to health care practitioners. Evaluates patient response to drug therapy. Documents interventions and conducts outcome studies to improve patient outcomes. Assists with development of pathways, best practices, and guidelines for assigned populations. Educates staff, students, patients, and other health care professionals; submits related work for publication every two years. Mentors residents, students, and new staff to meet departmental goals. Provides overall patient care beyond the hospital visit, through all transitions of care. Volunteers to assist with work in technical and non‑technical areas during staffing shortages or emergencies. Adapts communication and services to the needs and privacy of specific patient populations. Qualifications Education Required: None. Preferred: Actively working toward Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D) – Year 2 residency. Work Experience Required: Clinical experience in specialty pharmacy. Certifications Required: License to practice pharmacy in the State of Louisiana, or eligible for licensure by examination or reciprocity from another state (licensure must be obtained within 4 months of hire). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information; proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally. Strong leadership and teaching skills. Physical and Environmental Demands The position requires light to medium physical effort, including lifting up to 20–50 pounds occasionally, walking or standing for significant periods, and using mechanical lifting devices or team lifts when necessary. The pharmacist may be required to stand for prolonged periods, travel between facilities, and be exposed to blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases.
