Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room by assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks. Ensure adherence to established standards for instrument processing and patient care.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation and management of surgical instruments and equipment, following guidelines from manufacturers and professional organizations.
• Perform cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical tools to maintain a sterile environment.
• Adapt to fluctuating department activity by prioritizing tasks effectively and managing time efficiently.
• Support nursing staff by obtaining specialized supplies promptly to maintain quality patient care.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to plan and adjust patient care during procedures, including updating preference cards and supply lists as technology evolves.
• Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately.
• Maintain a professional, quiet environment to enhance patient and staff experience.
• Ensure patient safety by adhering to sterile field protocols, verifying medications and supplies, and reporting any breaches immediately.

Education and Certification

• Current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with registration as a Registered Nurse.

Experience and Professional Development

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy, instruments, and equipment.
• Serve as a resource and mentor for peers, students, and new employees.
• Engage in ongoing learning opportunities and participate in departmental goal setting and in-services.

Customer Service and Teamwork

• Build strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals.
• Practice AIDET communication techniques to enhance patient and visitor interactions.
• Be flexible with assignments and shifts to support department needs.
