Responsibilities*

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Rooming patients for clinic visits including patient intake.
• Prep clinic exam and procedure rooms and turn over rooms between patient visits.
• Restock and maintain clinical supplies and equipment.
• Specimen procession, bench lab testing and quality control monitoring.
• Immunization and medication administration.
• Complex coordination with physicians, nursing, and clerical for safe and quality patient care.
• Clean, sanitize, and disinfect equipment according to established protocols.
• Chaperone provider and PT examinations.

Required Qualifications*

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant Program OR current enrollment in, or completion of coursework in a healthcare professional program (e.g., medical school, PA program, nursing program, or related clinical training) OR equivalent combination of education and experience (1-3 years).
• Demonstrated knowledge of clinical workflows, patient care, and basic medical terminology.

Physical Requirements:

• This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

Desired Qualifications*

• Certification as a Medical Assistant desired.
• Specific skills preference: 1-3 years previous experience in assisting healthcare provider with patient care, preferably in outpatient physician office setting, ambulatory care setting.
• Experience working in a high-risk OB Clinic; hands on experience with obstetrics and gynecology procedures and IUD's including female exams and Pap smears; knowledge of surgical instruments.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
• Communicates effectively.
• Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.
• Competence in computer usage, telephone etiquette, participate in team and staff meetings, and follow clinic guidelines and protocols.
• Must have history of excellent attendance and punctuality.
• Demonstrated abilities to efficiently manage time and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
