Job Title Assistant Ice Technician & Building Operations Assistant Department : Robson Arena Campus Location : Main Campus FLSA Status : Nonexempt/ Hourly Position Type/ Work Schedule 1040 Hours per year 12 Months per year 20 Hours per week (Estimated) About Us Colorado College (“CC”) is a private, four-year, highly selective liberal arts college of 2,100 undergraduate students and a small Master of Arts in teaching program. It is located on a 99-acre campus adjacent to downtown, ‘Olympic City’, Colorado Springs. The campus sits on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains at the foot of Pikes Peak. The college operates an innovative curricular approach, known as the Block Plan, which entails students taking one course at a time for three and a half weeks, with the academic year divided into eight blocks. The Colorado College Department of Athletics sponsors 17 varsity programs. Fifteen programs compete at the NCAA Division III level and two at the Division I level. Division III programs are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), with the exception of Men’s Lacrosse (independent) and Women’s Lacrosse (WIAC affiliate). Division I Men’s Hockey is a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and Division I Women’s Soccer competes as an affiliate member of the Mountain West Conference (MWC). Job Summary Work closely with the Head Ice Technician & Building Operations Coordinator to support the day-to-day facility and ice operations of the Arena to include Zamboni operation and building upkeep/repairs. Ensure an exceptional and consistent NCAA Division I ice surface, while also assisting with all arena changeovers for events. Hours include weekdays, weekends, nights, and holidays. Responsibilities Assist Head Ice Technician & Building Operations Coordinator with creating and maintaining quality ice surface for all skating constituencies to include: depth readings and adjustment of ice surface to provide quality level of ice, maintain optimal depth of ice for efficient cooling and energy savings, and maintain edge of ice surface with edger to keep the quality of the ice consistent from the center to the boards. Assist the Head Ice Technician & Building Operations Coordinator with running assigned operations during CC hockey game days. Assist with yearly ice removal and installation process. Install, repair, replace and clean hockey glass and dasher boards. Provide general/routine building and equipment maintenance. Lead equipment rental program, which includes performing maintenance on hockey and skating equipment including skate sharpening and equipment repair. Ensure a safe, secure, clean, functioning facility; provide security and emergency response to injury. Coordinate logistical setup/take down for events as assigned, including but not limited to intercollegiate, college, external, club, camp, City for Champions initiatives and all other rentals. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED Proficient in Microsoft Office software to include Word and Excel; ability to follow safety and security guidelines and exercise good judgement; ability to uphold policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants, facilities, and equipment; strong customer service skills; excellent interpersonal/verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds; ability to think critically and solve problems; ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College’s motor vehicle insurance provider. Ability to become forklift certified. Physical requirements include heavy physical effort (lifting up to 100 pounds); exposure to noisy, icy or dusty conditions and chemicals and solvents; exposure to mechanical, electrical and/or other hazards.
