Registered Nurse

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to residents in a long-term care setting, guided by individualized care plans, facility policies, and professional standards. The RN conducts nursing assessments, develops and implements care plans, administers medications and treatments, and supervises nursing assistants. Effective communication and collaboration with physicians, residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams are essential to ensure quality care and resident safety. Responsibilities:

• Conduct nursing assessments and make nursing diagnoses to guide care planning.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized resident care plans.
• Administer routine and emergency medications and treatments as ordered, with knowledge of medication side effects.
• Supervise Nursing Assistants, Certified Medication Aides, and Health Unit Clerks to ensure compliance with care plans.
• Coordinate physician visits and communicate effectively with physicians, residents, and families.
• Provide teaching to residents, families, and staff regarding care plans and resident rights.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation to ensure continuity of care.
• Perform safety and infection control procedures to maintain a safe environment.
• Participate in Quality Assurance programs to uphold standards of care.
• Function as primary contact person on assigned shifts.
• Demonstrate proficiency in IV therapy, including initiation, medication administration, and management of central lines and catheters.
• Assist with lifting and transferring residents as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned based on community health assessment needs.

• Current Registered Nurse license in the State of South Dakota.
• Education commensurate with RN licensure requirements.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Clinical skills in nursing assessment, medication administration, IV therapy, and treatment planning.
• Strong verbal communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Physical ability to perform nursing tasks including lifting and transferring residents.

• Experience in Long Term Care nursing.
• Experience supervising nursing assistants and other support staff.

• Must be able to respond quickly to resident safety needs and emergencies.
• Role includes supervisory responsibilities over nursing assistants and other personnel.
• Work environment requires adherence to infection control and safety protocols.

• Work schedule based on assigned shifts within the long-term care facility.
• May function as primary contact person during assigned shifts.
