Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Legal Assistant or Paralegal role based in Auburn, WA, with some remote work after 90 days. The person in this role will support attorneys with drafting court pleadings, case management, including organizing and maintaining physical and electronic files, tracking deadlines, and updating case calendars. Daily responsibilities include client interviews, preparing legal documents and correspondence, assisting with court filings (including e-filing), and assembling exhibits and discovery materials. The role also involves communicating with clients, courts, and opposing counsel by phone, email, and mail, as well as scheduling appointments, hearings, and meetings. The Legal Assistant or Paralegal will conduct basic legal and factual research, manage administrative tasks such as mail handling and client billable time (data entry), and help ensure that firm procedures and court rules are followed consistently.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of family law and legal procedures, with experience supporting attorneys as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal.
- Proficiency in legal document preparation, including drafting, formatting, and proofreading pleadings, motions, correspondence, and other legal documents.
- Strong communication skills, including clear, professional verbal and written communication with clients, attorneys, courts, and other parties.
- Administrative assistance skills, including scheduling, file management, data entry, document organization, and general office support.
- Ability to work effectively in a Legal Assistant capacity, managing multiple matters, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines in a law office environment.
- Comfort with common office and legal software (e.g., Microsoft Office, case management or document management systems, and e-filing platforms).
- High attention to detail, discretion with confidential information, and a strong sense of professionalism and ethics.
- Preferred: prior experience in a law firm or legal department and/or completion of a paralegal certificate or relevant post-secondary education.
