Community Corrections Officer 2 (Or CCO1 In-Training) - Northgate

Position Overview Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) – a permanent, full‑time position located at 9620 Stone Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98103. Shift hours are 0800‑1700 Monday‑Friday. The role has an in‑training plan attached; candidates may be appointed at CCO1 or directly at CCO2 based on qualifications. Responsibilities Supervise individuals (S/Is) ordered to community supervision in accordance with Washington State law, Interstate Compact Rules/Regulations, and agency policy. Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests. Complete intake, administer assessments (risk, needs, substance abuse), and manage electronic and hard‑copy files and reports. Engage S/Is using motivational interviewing and principles of effective interventions to promote positive change. Enforce supervision conditions and the law; present accurate written documentation and oral testimony, recommend sanctions, identify and preserve evidence, and maintain chain of custody. Exercise sound judgment regarding the maintenance, security, handling, and discharge of department‑issued firearms; ensure safety and security measures when armed and in contact with S/Is outside the office, including wearing a safety vest. Perform other duties as assigned. Core Qualifications Must have the ability to carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm. Must possess and maintain an unrestricted vehicle operator's license valid in Washington. Willingness to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti‑social behaviors; ability to review graphic materials and remain objective. Demonstrated ability through college‑level coursework, professional work experience, or volunteer experience in at least three of the following: Written communication – clear, factual, concise, grammatical. Critical thinking – evaluate, interpret, assess risk, separate fact and opinion, make informed decisions. Analytical reasoning – interpret data, identify solutions, implement decisions. Conflict resolution – observe, strategize, engage positively, acknowledge opposing viewpoints. Situational awareness – remain calm in crises, assess safety, document details. Problem solving – identify problems, seek input, assess outcomes, implement solutions; organizational skill, time management. Independent work – understand duties, comply with policy, meet productivity standards, seek guidance when needed. Flexibility – incorporate new information, accept change, support agency policy changes. Education and experience combinations (minimum requirement): High school diploma or GED + at least four years of qualifying experience. Associate or technical degree + two years of qualifying experience. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Or an equivalent combination totaling four years (CCO1) / five years (CCO2). Special Requirements & Conditions of Employment Complete a felony disclosure form and submit for criminal background check. Pass the psychological screening (Battery Exam and Psychological Interview/Evaluation). Submit to drug testing as per policy. Complete required orientation, annual, in‑service, and other mandatory training in prescribed timeframes. Be familiar with and comply with department policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and force‑use protocols. Successfully complete Firearms Academy and Control/Impedance Tactics (CIT) training within prescribed timeframes, including maintaining qualification and re‑qualification.
