This person will collaborate closely with project managers to manage the financial aspects of projects from proposal to close-out.Position SummaryThe Project Accountant collaborates closely with project managers to manage the financial aspects of projects from proposal to close-out. Responsibilities include setting up and maintaining project accounts, preparing and submitting client invoices, and conducting regular project reviews to ensure accurate billing, cost tracking, and financial reporting. This role also handles project-related purchase orders, accounts receivable, collections, and compliance with tax regulations. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential for success in this position.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAll areas of responsibility listed below are essential to the satisfactory performance of this position, with reasonable accommodation, if necessary. Any non-essential functions are assumed to be included in "other related duties as assigned":Collaborate with project manager on accounting aspects of the project from proposal to close outValidate project proposals, project PO, and internal project setup documents are complete and accurateSet up and maintain client projects within the project accounting system to ensure accurate billing and financial reportingUnderstand types of billing and the specifics of how the information on the invoice should be presented to the client (i.e. cost-plus, cost-plus-to-a-max, lump-sum)Prepare, review, and submit client invoices on a timely and accurate basisReview and approve project-related vendor purchase orders and invoicesConduct frequent project reviews to include validating estimated cost-to-complete calculations, month-end over/under WIP, and project variancesUnderstand multi-company project postings for revenue and expenseResponsible for project account receivables and collections; researching and resolving cash receipt discrepanciesUnderstand U.S. sales tax laws as they pertain to professional services and project materials soldClose out projects upon completion assuring projects have been billed to the extent possible and commitments have been resolveQualifications/RequirementsStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detailAbility to work and interact effectively with customers and co-workersSelf-motivated and able to work independentlyExcellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneouslyProven attention to detail and strong math skills a mustAbility to "think outside the box" and exercise independent judgmentExcellent communication and people skillsConfident presentation, communication and interpersonal skillsEducation/ExperienceAssociate Accounting degree required: Bachelor's degree is preferredThree to Seven years of direct experience in project accounting, including accounting procedures, monthly billings, A/R, and revenue recognitionRequired software experience in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe, and a basic understanding of ERP SystemsEquivalent relevant education + experience may be consideredSupervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilitiesWork Conditions The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
