Business Representative
Full-Time, Salaried, and Exempt

OPEIU 30 represents a diverse membership of more than 7,000 members in San Diego, Los Angeles, Arizona, and Denver with its headquarters in San Diego, California. OPEIU 30 is seeking an experienced Business Representative who can be an integral part of our growing union. Position is Full-Time, Salaried, and Exempt.

Responsibilities:

• Process grievances, including investigation and arbitration preparation
• Negotiate and administer collective bargaining agreements
• Interpret and administer complex legal and contract language 
• Mediation and dispute resolution
• Coordinate, train, recruit, and support shop stewards and activists
• Identify and develop new workplace leaders
• Attend and lead at regular unit meetings
• Implement contract and community campaigns for power at the bargaining table
• Prepare leaflets, bulletins, and other communications
• Conduct internal and/or external organizing campaigns

Requirements Include:

• Experience as a business representative or proven ability to perform the duties of the position
• Demonstrated success at contract negotiations, grievance processing, and organizing members
• Demonstrated commitment to the labor movement and social justice
• Strong and effective written and verbal skills in a variety of forms, including emails, letters, grievances, settlement agreements, contract proposals, flyers, petitions, and newsletter articles
• Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with deadlines and work independently
• Willingness and ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours including nights and weekends
• Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.

Salary and Benefits:

• Competitive Salary: Starting at $74,000, commensurate with relevant experience
• Benefits package, including health, dental, vision coverage with no employee contribution; vacation, paid holidays, personal days, and sick days; 401(k); pension plan.
