Registered Nurse - Mother-Baby / Couplet Care / Post Partum

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse specializing in Mother-Baby and Couplet Care to join our dynamic postpartum team. This position focuses on providing high-quality care to postpartum patients and their newborns, with a commitment to family-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive postpartum care to patients following vaginal and cesarean deliveries.
• Administer medications, including antihypertensives, heparin, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate, and Pitocin (oxytocin).
• Perform bladder assessments, Foley catheter insertions, and episiotomy/incision care.
• Educate new mothers on breastfeeding and infant care, including the use of electric/manual breast pumps.
• Monitor and assess postpartum patients for complications, such as hemorrhage and pregnancy-induced hypertension.
• Conduct newborn assessments and manage care for infants requiring phototherapy, metabolic screenings, and newborn hypoglycemia interventions.
• Coordinate discharge teaching for new parents to ensure safe transitions home.
• Participate in interdisciplinary support efforts, collaborating with IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Social Services, and Pharmacy.
• Respond to emergencies and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of postpartum nursing experience.
• Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
• Proficient in IV therapy, including starting and maintaining IVs and administering blood products.
• Labor and delivery experience is highly desirable.
• Experience with electronic health record systems, particularly EPIC.
• Telemetry interpretation skills are required; passing an EKG exam will be necessary before starting.

Work Environment

This position will primarily be on a 40-bed inpatient postpartum unit, focusing on family-centered care for mothers and infants. The nurse will be responsible for a patient ratio of 1:3-4 dyads, ensuring quality care for each patient.

Schedule

This role involves working night shifts of three 12-hour shifts per week. Weekend coverage is required on an every-other-weekend basis.

PTO and Orientation

Two requests for pre-approved time off are permitted. A comprehensive orientation program consisting of 36 hours will be provided to ensure readiness for the role.

Parking Information

Parking options available include several permits, with varying access and costs. The most cost-effective options include parking at West Campus locations with shuttle service provided to the main area.

Special Considerations

This position may require floating to other units within the organization as needed based on patient care demands.
