Part-Time Mail Clerk

Position Overview Mail Clerk (Clerical Support), Part‑Time, Monday‑Friday 11:30am‑2:30pm. Hourly rate $17.20. Location: Minton‑Capehart Federal Building, 575 N Pennsylvania St, Indianapolis, IN 46204. This role is part of the AbilityOne program, supporting federal facilities by managing mail and providing clerical support. Responsibilities Sort incoming USPS mail and internal deliveries to appropriate department, mail stop, or office location. Deliver mail to designated locations and collect outgoing mail for external delivery. Open, review, and determine delivery points for inaccurately addressed or damaged mail returned by USPS. Track incoming and outgoing mail and packages; verify and confirm shipping information. Sign for incoming and outgoing certified and registered mail. Screen mail and packages that appear suspicious and follow established security and safety procedures. Maintain an accurate inventory of mailroom and office supplies; reorder supplies when needed; communicate inventory status to leadership. Receive, open, and unpack cartons of supplies; verify invoices against items received. Maintain cleanliness of the mailroom and assigned work areas by performing light janitorial duties: sweeping/mopping floors, dusting countertops, emptying trash. Perform routine organization and upkeep of mailroom equipment and workspaces. Autonomy: Take initiative, complete tasks independently, and own mistakes. Safety Awareness: Recognize risks, apply controls, and follow safety protocols. Physical Requirements Ability to spend more than 8 hours sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Use hands to grasp, carry, feel, or touch products and machinery. Ability to move and lift up to 70pounds. Noise level generally low. Visual acuity: close, distance, peripheral, and color vision adequate, able to adjust focus.
