The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding elementary Principal to lead the students, staff, families, and community of Vermont Avenue Elementary School toward continued academic growth and success. Located within the University of Southern California Family of Schools, Vermont Avenue Elementary School is nestled in a quiet community in the heart of Los Angeles. Serving 320 students in transitional kindergarten through fifth grade, Vermont is a proud and inclusive learning environment that welcomes, respects, and values every child, staff member, and family. With 92% of students from low-income backgrounds, 33% identified as Emergent Bilingual learners, and 27% supported through Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Vermont is committed to meeting diverse needs through personalized support and high expectations. The school's student population reflects the rich cultural diversity of the community: 82% Latino, 12% Black, 1% White, and 5% multiracial. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

will be a dynamic, collaborative leader with a passion for accelerating student learning outcomes and a deep commitment to the success of the Vermont Avenue Elementary School community. With extensive experience working with diverse student populations, they will bring a strong understanding of curriculum standards, particularly the Common Core State Standards, and will be driven to ensure that every child meets and exceeds grade-level expectations. This leader will demonstrate the ability to analyze data, align instruction with the core curriculum, and implement research-based strategies that improve early literacy and numeracy outcomes. They will actively support and promote district initiatives and instructional best practices. Using the Teaching and Learning Framework to provide actionable and meaningful feedback to educators, they will be data-driven and systems-oriented. The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader and a skilled communicator, capable of building strong relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners. Their ability to manage school operations, facilitate targeted professional development, and effectively steward resources, including budgets and school safety, will be evident in their efforts to cultivate a school culture rooted in academic excellence, equity, and social-emotional wellness. Most importantly, this candidate must embody a genuine desire to serve the community and work collaboratively with all stakeholders to create a nurturing, high-achieving learning environment where every student can thrive.

SALARY:

40G - E Basis ($123,618 - $153,961) – 234 paid days For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit. For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment). Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service A minimum of threeyears of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position. Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice
