DescriptionRobert Half is partnering with a well-established, family-owned real estate organization to identify a Controller for a key succession-planning opportunity. This position offers the chance to lead the accounting function for a stable and growing company with a long-tenured team, while helping modernize processes and prepare the organization for its next chapter of growth.The company owns and manages approximately 25 properties and is seeking a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys balancing day-to-day accounting responsibilities with process improvement, team leadership, and operational excellence. The current finance leader is planning for retirement and will provide extensive training and knowledge transfer to ensure a smooth transition.Position HighlightsFull-time, permanent Controller opportunityCompensation: $140,000-$150,000+ (flexible for the right candidate)Bonus eligibilityFully onsite with flexibility for occasional remote work as neededMonday-Friday schedule, generally 40-45 hours per weekLong-term opportunity with potential progression into the top finance leadership roleKey ResponsibilitiesLead all accounting operations for a multi-entity real estate portfolioOversee month-end close, financial reporting, and preparation of property financial statementsManage budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activitiesSupervise and develop a small accounting teamServe as the primary contact for annual audits and auditor relationshipsEnsure accuracy of the general ledger, account reconciliations, and financial reportingDrive process improvements, automation initiatives, and accounting modernization effortsEnhance AP workflows and reduce manual processes where appropriatePartner with ownership to support strategic business objectives through accurate financial reporting andRequirementsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with significant accounting experiencePrior Controller experience or experience serving as the senior-most accounting leader within an organizationReal estate or property management accounting experience requiredStrong multi-entity accounting backgroundExperience managing accounting operations and supervising staffDemonstrated audit management experienceHands-on leadership style with a process improvement mindsetQuickBooks experiencePreferred QualificationsCPA (active or inactive)Affordable housing accounting experienceERP implementation or system enhancement experienceBudgeting and forecasting expertisePayroll experience, including exposure to iSolvedJob typePerm
