Postdoctoral Fellow

Overview Henry Ford Health (HFH, Detroit, MI), in partnership with the Mental Health Research Network (MHRN), is recruiting 1–2 post-doctoral fellows for an NIMH-funded T32 fellowship to commence in the summer/fall of 2026. Fellows will be trained broadly in health systems/health services research with a focus on mental health conditions and services, including suicide prevention. Areas of interest and training include clinical interventions, healthcare service delivery, big data, implementation science, comorbidities, health equity, and health policy. The goal is to support fellows in transitioning to independent mental health services researchers who can pursue NIMH funding to support research within health system settings. Fellows will work locally alongside a primary mentor at HFH or the MHRN, with additional mentorship and training from other scientists within the MHRN. The MHRN is a consortium of 21 health systems serving over 30 million patients with a common data system to enable multi-site studies. The network currently leads NIH, FDA, CDC, and philanthropic grants in suicide prevention, mental health conditions, and medical/substance use comorbidities, using a wide range of methods and analytic approaches. Participating systems also maintain relationships with universities and other academic institutions. In addition to one-on-one mentoring, fellows will receive training in grant writing, manuscript development, health systems research methods (e.g., case-control designs, big data science, multi-site trials, dissemination and implementation), quantitative and qualitative methods, ethics, professional/career development, and conducting clinical trials. Teaching opportunities may be available, as well as clinical experiences for licensure. Responsibilities Engage in mentorship and training across areas of interest, including health systems research methods and dissemination. Develop and conduct independent research within health system settings, with opportunities to present at scientific meetings. Participate in grant writing, manuscript development, and professional development activities. Contribute to studies in clinical interventions, healthcare service delivery, big data analyses, implementation science, and health policy. Explore teaching opportunities and clinical experiences related to licensure where applicable. Qualifications PhD, MD, or other doctoral degree in behavioral or social science (e.g., psychology, social work, public health). Experience in health care settings and quantitative methods preferred; strong writing skills are imperative. Previous grant writing is not required but highly attractive. Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment.
