The Director of Strategic Finance will report directly to the VP, Strategic Finance and is responsible for owning 1Password’s consolidated financial plan, forecast and reporting cadence, serving as the primary finance partner to the Engineering, Product & Design and G&A organizations, and setting the company’s spend strategy for cloud hosting and AI as we build toward public‑company readiness. The Director sets the function’s strategic direction, oversees operations, drives successful delivery, and develops a high‑performing team to achieve impactful results. How we’re using AI today On the Finance team, we’re using AI to drive productivity, scale insight, and deliver better decision‑making across 1Password. AI helps us move faster and sharpen our thinking, from summarizing context and pressure‑testing assumptions to turning complex inputs into clear executive‑level narratives. We bring AI into our work thoughtfully, improving repeatable workflows while staying accountable for the accuracy, confidentiality, and controls behind every output, creating space to focus on judgement, strategic partnership, and meaningful business outcomes. This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US. What we’re looking for: Experience: 8+ years of experience in finance with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably within the SaaS or cybersecurity industry. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. MBA, CPA or CFA preferred, not required. Proven track record of achieving improved forecast accuracy and planning‑cycle speed at scale, ownership of a consolidated three‑statement forecast in a high‑growth environment, and measurable cost or gross margin outcomes delivered in partnership with a technical organization. Strong business acumen with expertise in corporate FP&A for high‑growth SaaS, spanning three‑statement forecasting, unit economics and gross margin analysis, R&D investment planning, and cloud cost structures. IPO or public‑company experience: Direct involvement in an IPO process or operating inside a recently public company, including S-1 support, guidance setting, or the quarterly external reporting cycle. Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop and execute plans that drive measurable results. Solid experience in operational excellence, including process improvements, system optimization, and performance metric management. Proven ability to collaborate effectively cross‑functionally with peer leaders and teams. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to influence peers and upward using expertise and data insights, simplifying complex topics, and incorporating feedback into decisions. Experience in leading strategic department initiatives in fast‑paced, complex, and dynamic environments. Proven success in building and developing high‑performing teams. What you can expect: Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement Corporate Finance’s annual objectives and roadmap aligned with Strategic Finance’s strategy. Analyze market/industry trends, emerging technologies, customer insights, and stakeholder feedback to inform strategic direction. Department Initiatives: Lead key strategic initiatives to drive forecast accuracy and reporting discipline to a public‑company standard, establish gross margin and unit‑economics visibility across cloud and AI spend, and improve return on our R&D investment Cross‑functional Collaboration: Cultivate trusted relationships with key cross‑functional peers and teams to understand their needs, challenges, and priorities, aligning objectives and initiatives to drive collective outcomes. Operations: Evaluate the function’s current structure, practices, processes, and systems to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, driving initiatives that enhance productivity and accountability. Performance Metrics: Establish and manage the function’s key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with Strategic Finance’s objectives. Oversee performance tracking, hold teams accountable, and lead initiatives to optimize results, ensuring KPIs drive business outcomes and inform strategic decisions. Change Management: Partner with key leaders to plan, communicate, implement, and evaluate effective, integrated change initiatives. Team Leadership: Build and lead a high‑performing team. Coach and mentor direct reports, maintain a deep understanding of the function’s talent, and implement plans to hire, develop and optimize talent for current business needs. Culture and Org Health : Foster a high‑performance culture that reflects company values, where psychological safety, agility, and ownership are the norms. Maintain a pulse on functional health and drive improvements to enhance the employee experience. Consolidated Planning & Forecasting: Own the consolidated P&L, balance sheet and cash flow forecast and the long‑range plan. Run the monthly outlook, quarterly reforecast and annual budget cycles, with variance analysis rigorous enough to withstand external scrutiny. EPD Business Partnership: Lead finance business partnership to the CTO and CISO organizations across engineering, product, design and product operations. Own the R&D plan end to end, including headcount. Bring a point of view and partner closely with R&D leaders to drive product roadmap velocity. Planning Systems: In partnership with FinSys team, own the planning stack and the processes around it, including Anaplan, its integrations with NetSuite, Salesforce and BI layers, and the data definitions the company forecasts against. USA‑based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $184,000 USD and $276,000 USD, plus immediate participation in 1Password’s benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs. Canada‑based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $162,000 CAD and $243,000 CAD, plus immediate participation in 1Password’s generous benefits program (health, dental, RRSP and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
