Respiratory Therapist - New Grad - All Locations - NLA

Overview This position provides respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to in-patients and out-patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. The role monitors and weans oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation, draws, analyzes, and reports arterial blood gases and EKGs, and delivers intermittent therapy. Assist with changing artificial airways and provide services as ordered by a physician and in accordance with established policies and procedures. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Responsibilities Provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support services to patients of all ages. Monitor and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation; draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs; deliver intermittent therapy. Assist with changing artificial airways and provide services as ordered by a physician and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to established policy and procedure. Review and document all clinical information regarding each patient. Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans. Perform diagnostic procedures. Provide care considering physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patient served in the assigned area. Maintain professional certifications and up-to-date knowledge of technical procedures. Attend staff meetings. Maintain compliance with corporate compliance & privacy program and standards of conduct. Qualifications Associate's Degree. No required work experience. Current license as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice. Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification (only for trained therapists working in the NICU). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 90 days of hire. Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information; proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals. Strong analytical skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency in performing routine and advanced respiratory therapies. Ability to interpret arterial blood gases and EKGs accurately. Knowledge of infection control measures and risk of communicable diseases. Ability to manage heavy physical demands and manual handling of equipment. Compliance with federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements. Physical and Environmental Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The role may involve very heavy work, with occasional exertion in excess of 100 pounds of force, frequent exertion in excess of 50 pounds of force, and constant exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move objects. Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues and communicable diseases is possible; hazardous medications and waste may be handled. The job may require walking or standing to a significant degree and occasional pushing or pulling of materials even if the weight is negligible.
